Insulin & periods.

I have recently been put on insulin (2 weeks ago).

Before this my periods were like clockwork. I was due on on Monday and still haven't come on. I'm getting the pains, cramps & sore boobs etc just not the period.
Usually I'd be grateful for it not happening lol but I'm just a bit worried.

So is it possible for my insulin to be messing with my monthlys?

I tried googling it but all I could find that people with irregular monthlys were finding them regulate more with being on insulin.

Please, can someone help.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Insulin & periods.

Hi Abi!

Not sure if insulin can affect your period like that, but there is certainly some interaction between your blood sugar levels and the menstrual cycle. I was diagnosed with diabetes after going to the doctor with heavy, prolonged bleeding. The bleeding stopped as soon as my BG came under control. Also, in the week leading up to my period I find I need more insulin and my BG goes higher, but once the period starts, my BG falls low and I have to reduce my insulin. Not sure if that helps you at all, but maybe someone else will know more.

Re: Insulin & periods.

Hi,

I went 6 months without a period due to my blood's being so high, but once I got back into some kind of control I became regular again, so I guess just wait and things should go back to normal :)
