I might be moving to the Philippines and wonder if anyone here knows about the availability of insulin and the prices over there?
The availability and prices of measuring strips(?) are also interesting.

Google didn't give me any answers really.
I use NovoRapid, and Levemir, and the FreeStyle Lite for measuring.

Cheers!

Morning ankat I hope you are having a good weekend :) At work a new girl/lady from the Philppines is working 2 days and going to college. She used to be a nurse in the Phillipines. She decided she wanted to work in over the counter medicne and she told me the cost for studying in Philippines was $1000s so very very expensive and she wanted to get out of Nursing because the conditions were not good, especially infections in her job( but she didn't say what infections, but she did say she went to different departments throughout the hospial)

Next week, I will ask her if she knows about diabetic costs, she may have some knowledge. Best wishes.

Hi ankat I spoke to the lady from the Phillipines tonight and she said you have to pay for everything in the Phillipines! :eh:

Insulin and test strips can be bought, either from the GP himself ( but not all GP's) or at the Pharmacy.

She also said, there is a form of our NHS over there, but there are always very long queues. I wasn't able to to find out about costs I'm afraid, but I hope it has been of some help to you. Best wishes RRB

Yes, thank you Robinredbreast, you've been most helpful!
Now I know at least there is some availability over there, something that isn't always the truth for many countries.
I don't really know what the abbreviations of GP and NHS is (I'm from Sweden not UK) but I still feel more secure traveling a longer period to the Philippines after your post.

If someone else have more information to add in this subject you are welcome :)

Hi ankat The phillipines lady said that different types of Insulin and test strips are available. GP means General Practioner( Family doctor you go to see at the surgery) NHS, is our National Health Service which is available to everyone, rich, poor, any nationality, working in the UK or just on holiday. She also said if she wanted to have an xray, she would just go and say' I want a xray' and pay for it. Their NHS( national health service) probably is for the very poor and vunerable? not sure, so there are very long queues for treatment/medication. If I can find out any more, I will try let you know. Best wishes RRB
