Insulin Pump question

Good Morning,
so here is a question, who is on the pump? Reason being im talking to the diabetic nurse Monday about it and am just after your thoughts, pros/cons etc? thanks

I've had a pump for about 3 years now. Diagnosed T1 in 1983 and had been using pens for years. I had injection site issues and loss of hypo awareness.

The pump has it's own limitations but, for me, it changed me life and my control is now a lot better than it ever was on the pens.

Life changing, I'd recommend anyone thinking of getting one to go for it.
My hypo awareness is slowly returning. My glucose levels are the best they have been in a very, very long time. No more hunting for suitable injection sites either.

Hi @chalky ,

The pump IS a great tool for helping T1D's with control issues, BUT it does not solve poor glucose control if underlying issues are not tackled at the same time.

When you discuss the pump as an option, also ask for a place on a course, such as Insight or Carb-counting, so that it refreshes your mind about the basics of control and the interaction of food, carbs, insulin, etc.

That said, once you get the basics right, the pump IS a fantastic tool and can be quite liberating - although there are downsides to it as well.

Find out which ones they're prepared to fund at your NHS Trust and then do some background research on them... I've got to start asking the same questions asmy pump is out of warranty in November and I've been offered four options.

Good luck,

Conrad
