Does anyone on this forum have an Insulin pump
if so are you Type 1 diabetic and received your pump via nhs?
I particularly would like to connect with Type3C diabetics who have a pump and how you went about getting one
I am newly diagnosed having had my pancreas and other organs removed due to cancer in August 2023
I am at the moment cancer free having had an oncology review plus scans and bloods this last week
Now to tackle the diabetes

Pump
I now manage my Type 1 diabetes with an insulin pump on the NHS.
This is not closed loop and did not have the option to an insulin pump for the first 12 years of diabetes. Whilst the time between diagnosis and pump varies, it is very common to spend a few years injecting to ensure it is second nature. I sulin pumps can fail and always do so at the most inconvenient time. There it is important to instinctively know how to revert to injecting.
I love my pump but it does not take the overhead of managing my diabetes away from me. In fact, I would say it takes me more effort.

If you think your diabetes management would benefit from an insulin pump, I recommend familiarizing yourself with the NICE guidelines and provide a justification why you need it. Plus, you need to be prepared to prove your capabilities to carb count accurately and invest ongoing time to learning how to use a pump.

That’s interesting Thankyou. My Diabetic Consultant, although he thinks I am an ideal candidate for a pump, tells me that Type3c is not available to me at the moment on the NHS. Policies, protocols and procedures, although being written for this type are not in place as yet. Perhaps that is just in my Health authority. My oncologist was shocked when I told him this yesterday hence my joining this forum for some ideas.
I am a very small carb consumer at the best of times so to me that would not be a problem. As I acquired my diabetes through cancer and surgical intervention - which by the way has saved my life - my diabetes is going to be troublesome and will take lots of specialist imput.
