Hi there everyone Im new here and was wondering if I could get some advice.
Im a 27 year old male and Ive been type 1 diabetic since I was 4 years old. During my life I havnt really had any problems with my diabetes and my life has been just fine with it. For the duration of my time with it I have always used the regime of 2 doses, once in the morning and once in the evening both before the respective meals. The insulin is a mixture of Actrapid and Insulatard mixed in a standard syringe.
Recently I have been told that Actrapid and the particular syringes I used are to be discontinued, this is fair enough as things change and I have been told I need to use a pen to administer my insulin. Ive used these before and its not big deal, however the regime is.
I have been told by the particular nurse at my hospital that the regime I will be moved to shortly is the only regime available, which I find a little hard to believe. I will most likely be using Novarapid and taking doses 3 times a day with a total of five injections, a bit of an increase!
Basically im looking to see if anyone has a different regime or any suggestions where I can find any info. Im used to doing it twice a day, I am well controlled, healthy and very fit so there is no real need to start mucking around with the way I do things. My daily routine is never quite the same and I dont really have a meal in the middle of the day and for the first few months I will forget to take the insulin anyway.
I went to see my normal diabetic physician recently. It was a mammoth task just to get an appointment. Although I specifically asked to see him and only him I was told he was unavailable and I saw someone who didnt have a clue what I was talking about. The only real advice I got was there were many types of insulin and to use an online forum, basically do it yourself. So here I am!
Thanks for taking the time to read the lengthly story and any help would be greatly appreciated.
