Type 2 Insulin?

Hi y'all

i have appointment with the DN regarding my medication and insulin - she mentioned that Lantus is a old type of insulin and that she will discuss new type of insulin, of course i am just looking at trying to bring my levels down of course i would have loved to have done it from diet alone but i have been diabetic a long time and i believe i am not going to be able to just bring it down with diet or with metformin and gliclizide. i will weigh out my options when i see the DN of course if my own body isn't able to help me bring down my glucose levels then i will need to try insulin again. if it helps me out and i feel better then i will try and have more energy to work out and better myself and eventually come of the insulin in due course. but right now i want to feel better and that is only going to happen if my levels are controlled.

if any type 2 diabetics are on insulin, do let me know would like to know if y'all have had success with insulin as far as HBA1C reduction or overall feeling better.

Not on insulin. Like your pragmatic approach, though. Hope I would follow your example should I need it. Hope someone with T2 with relevant experience comes along soon with details of their personal experience.

Hi. I was diet controlled then on Gliclazide and Dapagliflozin but after 15 years of T2 my HBA1C was just not where it needed to be despite ALL my best efforts.

I battled against Insulin until my GP and DN at the surgery ran out of ideas and ref me to the hospital's Diabetic Centre.
The Consultant was like a breath of fresh air, she considered everything I'd tried and understood why I felt so ill, exausted, depressed, afraid to eat.

Blood tests showed my own Insulin production was too low. I also have Thyroid and Blood issues.

She convinced me to at least give Insulin a go. I started off on Semeglee once a day which did little for me.(purely background Insulin)

This was changed to Humulin M3 which I inject twice a day, b4 breakfast and Dinner. This is a mixed Insulin, 70% background and 30% faster acting. I am still on Dapagflozin. I started on 10 units x 2 a day and slowly built up 2 units per time until I reached the targets set without going too high or hypoing.

It has been much better and brought my HBA1C within touching distance of my target. The only issue is it doesn't leave me any wiggle room should I want to eat out or stray from my usual meals although I can make small adjustments.

She is seeing me in Oct to discuss whetger I would benefit from a basal/bolus regime to give more flexibility on diet.

I don't struggle with injecting myself and I feel soooo much better. I haven't gained weight on it although I have found it harder to shift the weight I want to.

She made me feel reassured that despite all my efforts noving to Insulin is not a failure, it is necessary to keep me well and keep me well.

I hope all goes well for you. Don't see it as a bad thing if it keeps you in much better control. I feel years of Gliclazide probably did me far more harm than insulin will.

i have been on gliclazide for many years also. I will give it another go and see if it can help me now or never since i feel so bad and i know its due to constant high blood sugar for many months and years.
all my friends and family think how isn't he in a coma yet when they see my glucose levels i tend to not show them when i check my blood sugar anymore since i don't really like hearing about coma or death even though it is possible and of course death is guaranteed regardless.
