insulin

think i need to research low carb better
If you're not already low-carbing (or at least reducing them), I would certainly suggest that it's very worthwhile in improving your numbers. Even if you go on insulin, it will have a serious impact on the amount you'll need. I'm in limbo a little at the moment as I've just started a new regime and am not at my fighting doses yet, but last year when I was on a mixed insulin, I was taking less than half the likely recommended dose from the manufacturer - because I counted and restricted carbs as well. I eat more than some people manage, but every 10g a day less you eat, the better you'll be for it.

Most of us have managed to lose weight by low carbing, I'm about 25lbs lighter than when I started on insulin and when you lose weight, that improves BG and insulin need too.

I've been on insulin over 5 years now because I have insufficient insulin production myself. I've never been placed on insulin to get control when I had my own insulin so can't comment on that. I'm thankful they did all the diagnostic tests on me again because having numerous kinds of oral meds to take was getting ridiculous and I swear I was taking placebos at the time. My endo of course said my c-peptide test came back in the red which meant I have to be on full time insulin therapy for the rest of my life now. I don't mind, it was certainly better than paying for meds that didn't work and were giving me side effects. But really my advice to any type 2 is if things aren't working, try something else... if it is getting ridiculous then ask for the diagnostic tests to be done again so you know what you're dealing with. So many people don't realise type 2 is progressive either.
