insurance

I'm a type 2 diabetic and have just renewed my annual travel insurance.
Last year I used a company called Columbus Direct and when I received their renewal quote I was quoted £63.19 which I thought wasn't that bad as I always have winter holiday cover included. When I called to renew, I had to go through all the medical questions again but was informed that as I am a Type 2 diabetic my insurance premium had increased and doubled to over £120. I explained that my diabetes was well under control but it didn't make any difference. Needless to say I did not renew withthis company and would recommend all fellow sufferers to avoid this company and insure with an alternative one.
I am currently with a company called Multitrip (These had quite a good review in "Which" on-line magazine). I have declared my pre-existing medical condition withthis insurer and as it is under control with no addtional comploications there is no additional premium at all. I have not had to make a claim with this new insurer so I cannot comment how fair they are for any claims.

We have an annual insurance with Marcus Hearn..I told them at once when I was diagnosed..cost me £31 extra for the year..very worth it

Travel Insurance

I've been looking at travel insurance because we're planning a week away sometime later this year. Thought I'd share this information incase anyone else is looking for travel insurance. I did a search on the forum and some posts came up saying people were being charged double the price. I've done an online quote with Axa insurance and the policy comes in at 65p more compared for the same trip but without one of the children being a diabetic. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected it to be more after having read the comments on this forum. It did ask how many hospital admissions she'd had in the past year due to her diabetes, she has had none but someone who has had more may see a bigger difference in the premium. Anyway, thought I'd share this info incase anyone else is looking for travel insurance right now. Jess' insulin pump is covered on our home insurance policy so I don't need to take out extra to cover that for the trip.

Hi
Try Heath Lambert, they are on the Diabetes U.K. website snd specialise in Insurance for diabetics. They can also cover people travelling with you if a trip has to be cancelled because of diabetes or cut short for the same reason.
Their prices are comparable and some money also goes to diabetes research.
Good luck
