Hi members,
I have had elevated BP for about 5 years since 2010 & recently with a modified lifestyle, diet & intense running i have managed to get it down from an average of 150/90 to 130/80 in that region since late 2015.
I was on Apo-Atenolol , a beta blocker all this while until i stop taking it about the time i discovered my DM2 in January this year & all the while my BP was in the low range.

i noticed after taking metformin's for about 6 months my blood pressure has risen a bit. ( 10 points)
So i resume taking my BP meds again starting early this month & found out that each time i took my beta blocker, it impaired the function of my Metformin & my BS shoots up about 3-4 point until the range of 12-13 mmo/L from an average of 8-9.

Has anyone had this experience?

Yes! I’ve been taking a beta blocker for about 20 years for migraine prevention. I am physically active. I work out 6 to 7 days a week cardio and strength training. I recently have developed diabetes. My doctor put me on metformin. No one bothered to look to see if there are any medication’s. I was taking that would raise my blood sugar because I am so physically fit and there’s no history of it in My family. So I did some research on my own and found out that beta blockers are notorious for raising blood sugar, especially certain ones. They also have made it impossible for me to get my HDL up, which makes no sense because I do cardio all the time. So luckily, I was on a fairly low dose of my beta blocker and it was not for my heart. I took myself off it because my doctors were taking way too long to get back to me and my high blood sugar was really freaking me out. And lo and behold two days of not taking the beta blocker. My blood sugar went From a fasting of 170 to a fasting of 90. Now granite I have Only been on the metformin two times a day for about four days total. But I find it hard to believe that I went from 170 in the morning to 90 in a few days. The only logical explanation is the beta blocker so I would definitely add for yourself and pay attention to your sugars.
