Interesting endocrinology appt

I mean, granted, if the tummy effects are just too grim, then people can't take it. But one can build up the dosage VERY slowly, and/or shout very loudly for the time-release one

I did take metformin for a while, way back in... er... 2001 ish.

It was the standard variety (not slow release), but I ended up having this horrible metallic taste in my mouth. All the time. So I stopped taking it. At the time, when I told the Registrar (in Cardiff) he just shrugged and said 'some people tolerate metformin, and others don't'. No mention of the slow release variety.

Yesterday, when I mentioned this to my lovely consultant, he nodded and said 'yes, the slow release met is not proven to be any more efficacious than the standard variety, and it is MUCH more expensive. So we don't suggest it unless people are unable to tolerate the standard met. In your case, it might work, but we would have to try it and see. So if your numbers rise, discuss it with your doc, and ask for the slow release type.'

Love the use of the word 'efficacious'.
