But a metaanalysis of chromium supplements last year wasn't so enthusiasticThere have been over twenty trials on chromium, a cheap supplement that comes in 200mcg tablets. Those giving 400mcg or more produce five times more reduction in blood sugar than metformin, and there’s no side-effects.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23683609Cr lowers FBS but does not affect HbA1c, lipids and BMI
Well there was a Cochrane (gold standard ) review in 2012Half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day also significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics
(Patrick Holford used to sell a supplement that combined chromium and cinnamon; it was panned in a blog several years ago and the recent evidence shown above doesn't seem to be any better http://holfordwatch.wordpress.com/h...scientific-support-for-chromium-and-cinnamon/The effect of cinnamon on fasting blood glucose level was inconclusive. No statistically significant difference in glycosylated haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), serum insulin or postprandial glucose was found between cinnamon and control groups. There were insufficient data to pool results for insulin sensitivity................................There is insufficient evidence to support the use of cinnamon for type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus. Further trials, which address the issues of allocation concealment and blinding, are now required. The inclusion of other important endpoints, such as health-related quality of life, diabetes complications and costs, is also needed
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21631511Studies described herein have shown that, on average, oat consumption is associated with 5% and 7% reductions in total and LDL cholesterol levels, respectively. Significant scientific agreement continues to support a relationship between oat β-glucan and blood cholesterol levels, with newer data being consistent with earlier conclusions made by the FDA and JHCI
Me too! Interested in the cinnamon! I love cinnamon. Especially kanelbullar!Sometimes things just sound too good to be true ... hmm. And whenever somebody are out on a mission, i.e. in this case to sell a book, I get mighty suspicious ...

- and anyway, I know that oats in any form will send my bg skyrocketing ...
Powdered I believe! In what form does the cinnamon need to be in ? Natural plant or powder or something different ? I have read cinnamon can help many different conditions, including asthma.

Don't know if this is old news but I found this article very interesting.

If you ever cross the sund to the civilised part of Scandinavia@Scandichic - How could you do this to me? I just love kanelboller (snegle here) - But by now the picture constitutes a trip down memory lane- but I will still always stop at every bakery window display and recall times past - and will then walk on ... (But ok, ok, I am only human so I have been known to 'sin' ...)
