Interesting -Have you read this?

It seems to me a mixed bag:
We are told that
There have been over twenty trials on chromium, a cheap supplement that comes in 200mcg tablets. Those giving 400mcg or more produce five times more reduction in blood sugar than metformin, and there’s no side-effects.
But a metaanalysis of chromium supplements last year wasn't so enthusiastic
Cr lowers FBS but does not affect HbA1c, lipids and BMI

How about cinnamon then?
He says
Half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day also significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics
Well there was a Cochrane (gold standard ) review in 2012
The effect of cinnamon on fasting blood glucose level was inconclusive. No statistically significant difference in glycosylated haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), serum insulin or postprandial glucose was found between cinnamon and control groups. There were insufficient data to pool results for insulin sensitivity................................There is insufficient evidence to support the use of cinnamon for type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus. Further trials, which address the issues of allocation concealment and blinding, are now required. The inclusion of other important endpoints, such as health-related quality of life, diabetes complications and costs, is also needed
(Patrick Holford used to sell a supplement that combined chromium and cinnamon; it was panned in a blog several years ago and the recent evidence shown above doesn't seem to be any better http://holfordwatch.wordpress.com/h...scientific-support-for-chromium-and-cinnamon/
Now there is good evidence for oats lowering cholesterol.
A 2012 review
Studies described herein have shown that, on average, oat consumption is associated with 5% and 7% reductions in total and LDL cholesterol levels, respectively. Significant scientific agreement continues to support a relationship between oat β-glucan and blood cholesterol levels, with newer data being consistent with earlier conclusions made by the FDA and JHCI

As does a Mediterranean type diet. pattern (too many studies to cite! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=mediterranean+diet+cholesterol

Sometimes things just sound too good to be true ... hmm. And whenever somebody are out on a mission, i.e. in this case to sell a book, I get mighty suspicious ...

- and anyway, I know that oats in any form will send my bg skyrocketing ...

"Half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day"... That is interesting as I keep reading that cinnamon is good but never knew how much, a tsp, a bucket?

The bit about oats being less spikey than white rice...just the lesser of two evils in my book.

Me too! Interested in the cinnamon! I love cinnamon. Especially kanelbullar!

In what form does the cinnamon need to be in ? Natural plant or powder or something different ? I have read cinnamon can help many different conditions, including asthma.

@Scandichic - How could you do this to me? I just love kanelboller (snegle here) - But by now the picture constitutes a trip down memory lane :arghh::( - but I will still always stop at every bakery window display and recall times past - and will then walk on ... (But ok, ok, I am only human so I have been known to 'sin' ...)

I read about Cinnamon some time ago. I now eat Quinoa most mornings sprinkled with Cinnamon and Honey, or just Cinnamon and honey mixed. I am hoping it will help my Arthritis pain as well as lowering my blood sugar. I don't know about my Blood sugar levels as I don't test. And I still get as much pain from my Osteoarthritis. Still I love the taste and I live in hope.

Oh I love Cinnamon, I'm going to try the same as Opalshards and sprinkle it on my breakfast. :hungry:

If you ever cross the sund to the civilised part of Scandinavia ;) And end up in Göteborg then head for Haga (bohemian part just off touristy main strip - used to be the workers quarters ) and there is an amazing cafe which does huge ones for sharing (can feed family of 4 for at least a week) as well as an amazing spa built by an English philanthropist.
