A large drop in the 'excess mortality risk' of type 2s in both the UK and Canada according to the study comparing rates in 1996 versus 2009. Next thing to figure out if it is the more aggressive treatment or earlier diagnosis/intervention. I really hope that the budget issues that those in the UK are facing (and what it is doing to diabetic treatment plans) do not suffer a reversal on these improvements.
