Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
My HBAC1 score (type 2) has risen over the last so I thought I'd try intermittent fasting so only black tea until 16:00hrs. I checked my sugar levels at 11:00 and scored 8.7 at 14:00 6.8 but at 17:00 it had risen to 7.9, I'd not eateren and only drunk black tea, I had brushed my teeth immediately before the test, could that boost my sugar levels ?

The liver will pump out glucose if you are fasting. See …

When you say black tea, do you mean just teabag and hot water?
It's possible that that your toothpaste contains a sweetener. Many non-sugar sweeteners can still raise BG in some but not all even if they have no calories.
The same applies to mouthwash.

But your BG can rise even if you don't eat or drink anything, because your liver tries its best to keep your BG inside the range your body is used to (which may be higher than you would like) by either dumping stored glucose into the blood stream or by making fresh glucose. The liver is the main 'chemical factory' for the body. Read up on Dawn Phenomenon.
It needs to be able to do this since otherwise humans would be unable to fast, because certain brain functions require glucose for fuel and can't work on just ketones alone, unlike the rest of the brain and all or the rest of the body.

Thanks, and yes by black tea I mean just hot water and leaf tea.. Would regular fasting over time lower the BG level my body is use to ?

Yes, regular fasting will have that effect, as will eating either Low Carb or Keto (no restrictions on total calories).
Several, including myself use a combination of the 2 in order to stay in remission from type 2 diabetes (i.e. HbA1C and spot BG levels in the normal range without medication).
Though since this needs to be sustainable, it's probably best to use Low Carb in order to become 'fat adapted' first, as then we don't feel hungry at every meal (utilising body fat instead of external calories) and so skipping either breakfast or dinner in order to extend the fasting period is no longer difficult.
