Hi, my name is Arnie and I'm a diabetic. Im a 60 year old man and would like to start joining in the discussions here a little.

My story starts 5 years ago when I had a heart attack. They put in a stent, gave me a pile of meds and sent me on my way. Fast forward to April of this year and I had another heart attack. The Internal Medicine Specialist was a little puzzled because the usual indicators of heart disease showed me extreamly healthy in that regard.

About a year before this when I had blood work done I asked my regular doctor if I should be concerned about the 8.2 fasting blood glucose. He said no, just loose some weight (which I didn't). I started reading this forum and bought a blood glucose monitor. Anyway after the second heart attack I told the internal medicine specialist what kind of numbers I was getting and his eyes went wide and he remarked, "Well your diabetic!" it was a bit of a shock to me, as I didn't really want to believe it .

I was leaving for a 5 month cross country trip across Canada a week later, so he just said watch the carbs and away I went. I've been learning everything I know about diabetes from this forum. So thank you all for your help.

I've been LCHF for the past two months. For the past two days all the BG level readings have been in the upper six's. When I started LCHF fasting was around 8 or 9mmol and post meal was usually around 10 to 14. So im very happy with the 6's. I've also lost almost 20 lbs. I want to loose at least another 20, maybe 30. My goal is to get home in 3 or 4 months, have blood work done and be told I'm not diabetic.

Thank you to everyone here you are the only advisers I have. I wouldn't have had these improvements without you.

Well done on the success you have achieved so far. Welcome to a very special forum for very special people.
As you have already discovered there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here and we are all willing to share this. We know from our own experiences that there isn’t a one size fits all approach to living with this condition, this is what is sometimes lacking from the medical profession, unless you have a doctor or nurse who travels this path too they can only cope with reiterating from guidelines and text books.
Ask questions and when you get answers whey them up and make you own choices, the way you choose to live your life needs to fit your situation. As with most things if it feels right it generally is. No one here will judge or criticise but they will encourage, support, motivate and celebrate with you and if the situation requires it give you a virtual hug.
Keep up the good work and I wish you lots of luck and continued good health.

Hello Arnie, welcome to this very helpful site.
I am also recently new here and it is my 'go to' now for their knowledge, experience and positivity, it was a daunting task before this. Added to this site I have Jason Fung's book The Diabetes Code and Michael Mosley's experience and book.
Good luck, we can do this.

Welcome to the forum @Doarnamor! It's good to hear that you have learnt how to control your T2 from this forum. Well done on your reductions in blood glucose readings and weight. :)
I hope you won't just be lurking in future and will share your experience to help others who are just starting on their diabetic journeys.
