Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi all,
Fellow UK person, 41 years old. Had high blood pressure since late 20s, memory loss, brain fog, high stress, extreme hunger reactions between meals (sweats, shivering etc) at the time, constant fatigue and feeling cold. My belly fat started to appear at the same time and to me, those were signs of diabetes. Thinking back, the extreme hunger reactions were there from when i was a child...so could i have had insulin resistance issues since then? perhaps. I was always ill as a child and had stunted growth. Parents who were health professionals took me off various foods eg wheat, sugar when i was 14, and height shot up from 4ft 10 to 5ft 7 in 2 months. It was nothing short of astounding!. I am now 5ft 10. Following the blood pressure issues especially in my late 20s, i began to apply dietary interventions with low carb around 13 years ago but feared eating fat at the time which was a major issue. my health did get better but over time, things were getting worse, so i eventually tried low carb high fat around 5 years ago and now that is how i eat all the time.
Improvements:
+90% of the body fat around my belly disappeared. Body type has returned to when i was a teen.
+blood pressure got back to normal
+memory has got significantly better and brain fog disappeared
+gums stopped bleeding
+significantly greater amount of energy.
+I can fast at will and do multi-day fasting and keep energy levels.

Downsides:
-when i eat badly, i feel the effects far quicker. Eg can get a sore throat immediately after eating foods cooked in vegetable oils (signs of inflammation?)

I am also a graduate biochemist and research health and nutrition and hopefully can benefit the diabetes.co.uk community. That's what i am here for!

Hi All,

I'm new here - I'm a student at Loughborough university involved in a new insulin storage product development project, and I'm hoping to learn about some of the experiences of the wide range of insulin users here! Where would be the most appropriate forum to share a short insulin usage survey?

Thanks!

Fantastic news Anthony hope all goes well in the future for you

What happened to the:
"Ever been attracted to a member of the same sex?" question...
Hi, isnt that a kind of strange question? I dont mean yours. It's like that would be a bit unusual/tricky/whatever. Just asking about sexuality in a straightforward way seems better to me (and Im a lesbian!)

Hello everyone, my name is Dave been active all my life, forces, engineer, plenty of walking, running etc, diagnosed with type 2 in 2014, and been taking Metformin and for about 6 months Gliclazide, the about 5 weeks ago my stable mmol 5 to 7.5, decided to take a journey without my permission and jumped on the No 25 bus, oh but not happy on that one ran and caught the 33, and for that five weeks it's been up and down and all numbers in between, finally got an appointment with the surgery diabetes nurse who is very experienced and runs a department for diabetes in a local hospital, I handed my all my test readings I had taken, asked in depth questions and then suggested either one or two decisions, more tablets that would have side effects or start insulin, I decided insulin, two reasons, first I am taking other medication which was a lot until I decided to reduce these drugs, the fist on the hitlist was MSI, I was taking 50mg twice a day, now it is reduced to 20mg daily and falling, other medication I had been taking for a number of years were removed AFTER discussions with my doctor, so I was reducing my medication, back to diabetes after the short interlude, so here I am now on insulin, Gliclazide removed and metformin reduced by half, so injecting insulin is not in anyway hard for me, under advice, I have raised the dose slowly twice a day to where my tests are ranging between 16 and 22, I have wiped out sugar, watch my carbs, drink plenty of water and walk about 4 to 5 miles a day, but I would appreciate any and all help on food intake etc, I am a young 68 (32), still going strong, I use 3d printers, build models and dioramas, paint them and use Microsoft and Android, never ever apple, have 6 rescue dogs, love them all as well as three cats who all get along, had a very varied life, 9 years forces, QA engineer in the oil, gas and nuclear industries, facilities management, and been to Germany, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, France, Austria, Italy, Hungary and the middle East, whew, I have a dark sense of humour and don't get angered easily talking is best, well that's me
