i was wondering if anyone has ever had brittle diabetes? I find it hard with mine with it being brittle can get a bit upsetting at time that bloods drop so quick with no reason why. Fingers crossed one day there will be a cure!

I had acute Pancretitis and they took out my spleen, gallbladder and pancreas. They said I am a type 3 diabetic. For all practical purposes I am and insulin dependent diabetic. I spent 4 months in hospital. I have to work really hard to get my A1C down to 6.5 and keep it there.

Hi, I'm Grahame. I'm type 2 diabetic and have been on insulin since Sept 2013.

The forum was recommended to me primarily for advice about DVLA and their attitude to HGV drivers. I am hyperglycaemic but DVLA have used the same criteria as hypoglycaemia and revoked my licence. and the only thing they could revoke it on was that they said I didn't have 3 months readings, which was a complete lie.

I hope I can pick up a lot more info on lifestyle as well as some advice and would love to hear from others who are hyper and the issues they have.

this is my first post. I've been type 2 for about 11 years. I've had ups and downs, but for past 3 years my control has been quite good, even though I eat the wrong things sometimes.

My father passed away 2 years ago because of diabetic complications. He died because he did not survive a heart by-pass operation and so his organs failed one by one.

That sad fact alone should have been a wake up call for me. This time last year I was diagnosed with heart disease, so here I am.

I've recently had blood tests, I'm sorry I don't know the terminology, or the latest numbering systems. My latest result was 7.5 which my GP wasn't happy with, are they ever? At the moment, my diabetic nurse is on sick leave, so I'll get to see her when I can, she'll tell me the truth.

Hello everyone! Well, here I am at last. I have been a lurker for ages but thought it was about time I 'fessed up to being here! I have to say I have learned so much about me since I have been reading all the tremendous info on here. I am a Type 2 diagnosed about 5 years ago and stumbling my way around my condition until I happened upon this site. I have now got enough knowledge to enable me to control this horrible disease. I have learned to cut my carbs, move more and most of all, be positive about this. I have found that a positive attitude has enabled me to get through the bad days and enjoy the good days. Since discovering this site, I have had many more good days than bad.

I mentioned to the doctor I was drinking more (water) than usual but thought it was the e cig so he did the blood test and I
couldn't believe I was diabetic so did the glucose tolerance test which confirmed it
When I think back on symptoms I reckon I have had this for quite a number of years as I often had an itch on my lower back which took ages to go away then come back about 3 months later.
Was on 2 x Metformin until September when it was increased to 3 a day because my h1ac was 8.1
Days when i try and watch what i am eating and log it down and other days when I don't really bother and find there is little difference in my blood testing .
I used to bake a lot and eat it! Also ate chocolate every day which I don't now or small amount on a bad day
Stopped smoking March 2013 after about 40 odd years and thankfully never gained weight although I do use an e cig that I think helped.
Apart from walking dogs i don't exercise and don't really feel the urge to be honest lol

Did a wee experiment last night. About half past midnight my BG was 6.6. I had one medium slice of white toast with butter and cheese.
When I got up at 10am my BG was 8.8. Dawn phenomenon?
I would say it is not out of the way for me to have a 10 hour fast.

I have just received blood results from doctors which suggest diabetes. Dr said I was to have a glucose tolerance test to confirm this.
The thought of this is honestly scaring the **** out of me but I want to be pro active and get this under control x
