[QUOTE="Veronica E-B, post: 926156, member: 202993"] Hi My name is Veronica, I am a short, chubby, but relatively fit 61 year old lecturer in environmental science, I was diagnosed as type 2 four years ago (though probably pre diabetic for much longer) and was blindly following diabetic association and dietitians advice - with poor results. Currently managing diabetes with metformin three times a day & diet. A year ago I started lowering my carbs with better results. Cholesterol levels a little raised but blood pressure very good so resisting statins! Only recently watched a Ted talk on youtube by Dr Sara Hallberg (brilliant communicator) and the Food revolution (on the diet doctors web site). His book, 'Low carb, high fat food revolution' has been a great eye opener. The diet doctor, Andreas Eenfeldt is a Swedish medical doctor.and provides a great selection of scientific literature which has been useful. Started LCHF two weeks ago and sticking with it .Appalled that this information is not given to not only newly diagnosed diabetics but anyone who has weight problems - feel I have wasted the last four years. Have ditched the grains, potatoes and sugar and the only carbs come from veggies (above ground), berries (occasionally) and some seeds (pumpkin, flax etc for cooking with). Not carb counting (try to keep around 10- 20 gms per day) so careful with the amount of veg I eat and keeping to Real Food.
