Hello Everyone, My name is Zain Agha and I am from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, UK Me and my wife Mariam formed a group in July 2014. The name of our group is Wellingborough Diabetes Group. Mariam is the Chair Person and I am the Secretary and Phil Attwell is our Treasurer. We meet once a month at the Isebrook Hospital, Irthlingborough Road, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire and invite Guest Speakers to who are specialists in their Field to talk to us about the complications due to High Blood Glucose. On Friday the 20th of November 2015 we have invited Sharon Hampton, Clinical Link Podiatrist for the NMDT, Northamptonshire Diabetes Multi-disciplinary Team, Northampton. Sharon is going to talk about the Diabetic Complications that affect the foot and the techniques that can be used to screen for complications. Sharon will advice us on self-care, self-management and prevention along with the referral process into the Diabetic and High Risk Foot Service. She will also offer advice to patients who have a foot problem or who wish to speak to her about their feet. Sharon will show a practical demonstration and Zain (me) has volunteered to be the patient. Everyone who lives in and around Wellingborough Area is invited to attend our Meeting at 3:00 pm in the Health Education Room, Castle Unit, Isebrook Road, Wellingborough. NN8 1LP All of our Meetings are for FREE to attend and Free Refeshments will be served. ================================================================= Now a bit about myself I am 72 years old and have Type 2 Diabetes My wife Mariam has Type 1 Diabetes. (She is doing her Masters in Health Psychology from De Montford University, Leicester) In the year 2014 Mariam did a 5 Day Course in DAFNE, in Towcester, Northamptonshire. DAFNE stands for Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating and is a way of managing Type 1 diabetes for adults and provides the skills necessary to estimate the carbohydrate in each meal and to inject the right amount of insulin. More about DAFNE Here http://www.dafne.uk.com/What_is_DAFNE_-I293.html While my wife was on the 5 days course, we lived in a hotel in Towcester. Every afternoon when she returned, she used to teach me what she was taught. It was amazing how we can calculate what amount of Carbohydrates we were eating and how to adjust our intake of Insulin. (We both are on Insulin). This means we can eat anything and adjust our Insulin Doze accordingly. When we returned back we thought what if we form a Volunteer Group to help our local community. So we did and all our activities right from the start are recorded on our website www.WellingboroughDiabetesGroup.co.uk Tomorrow is our last meeting for this year. Our Next Meeting will be on Feb 19th 2016 Dr. Anne Kilvert, Consultant, Northampton General Hospital, will be our Guest Speaker. Please go to our website to learn more what we do and how we help the local community. We are looking for some more Guest Speakers for the following months in 2015 May 20th 2016 June 17th 2016 July 15th 2016 Sept 16th 2016 Oct 21st 2016 Nov 18th 2016 Our contact phone number is 01933 385175 07446 173 088 I hope my stay here in these forums will be a long one.
