Introduction - Hypo symptoms

Hi, I'm Stacey.

I've had some odd symptoms that seem to be diabetes related, but no firm diagnosis.

I saw an endocrinologist this morning having visited my GP a few times with regular symptoms of hypos, difficulty controlling body temperature and pins and needles in my hands and feet. My blood glucose was tested at the GP surgery whilst having symptoms of low sugars, but the reading was 5.8.

I was given my own glucose monitor this morning, and have tested a few times today.

Fasting (as I didn't eat before my appointment) was 6.2, four hours after I'd eaten it was 5.8, and following the Dr's orders of a carb heavy dinner was 7.2.

From what I can see, I'm slightly out of the target range, but there are no extremes to the results. I had expected a very low reading this morning and was surprised to see it was as high as it was.

I'm not asking for anyone to miraculously diagnose me over the internet, but I left the hospital this morning rather confused. The Dr said he wasn't ruling out diabetes, but didn't explain what he was looking for. Apparently I've got to go for another test involving a glucose concentrate solution and regular monitoring, and was given a blood test form and a very large bottle to fill with urine  but told not to bother with those until I go back to the hospital in 3 months time, BUT to start monitoring my blood sugars immediately and regularly. Slightly confused as to why the urgency to monitor if I don't go back for 3 months :?:

I was also told to start eating carbs again as I changed my diet to high fibre/protein, low carbs/sugars.

Does anyone have any comments/opinions?

TIA

Stacey

HI and welcome
I was wondering whether you may have thyroid problems or low in B12. The urine sample is probably a twenty four hour collections i gather from what your saying, this will show how your kidneys are doing, Whether their is protein or Ketones.
I wondered had your sugars been really high ( not that you may have known), but if they were then you could get symptoms of hypo as your sugar levels are equally out.
If the feeling isn't any better after a few days i would contact either your out of hours surgery if it gets uncontrolable or contact your GP on Tuesday.
I have been a type1 for 36yrs and am now 42yrs old, i do have a couple of complications,
1) borderline underactive thyroid, whichni had been on meds for but had to come off them at the beginning of this year, as i went in to toxosis, starting losing to much weight (3.5 stone).
2) eye complications.
3) no linig to Kidneys
4) Pulse often racing so awaiting to see cardiologist as i need an eye operation, but they won't do it till i have seen them.
Hope all goes well.
Take care
Tracey

Thanks for the response. Thyroid has come back normal, so that's been ruled out.

I've had these symptoms for 6 months now so not expecting them to suddenly get worse, well I hope not!

Well, after a couple more days testing, the only patterns I can spot are a) the more I feel like I'm having a hypo, the higher my BGL is, and b) my BGL peaks quickly after eating, and drops down to a similar level to what it was before I ate within 1-2 hours.

I'm very confused now.
