Hi I am Alan
I have just become a diabetic type 2
I have been tested twice in the last 2 months (HbA1c 7.0 (HbA1c 53 -mg/dL 155 - mmol/L 8.6) & (HbA1c 6.5 - HbA1c 48 mg/dL 140 - mmol/L 7.8 respectively)
I have done this by cutting down my snacking which caused the problem in the first place

Hi Alan and welcome to the forums.

Are the two results you've quoted HbA1c tests given in percentages? The might also be fingerprick glucose tests given in mmol/l. I ask because there are a number of different blood tests and some of the figures overlap confusingly, while indicating different things.

I'll attach a graphic that shows the different test ranges used - the UK changed around 12-15 years ago from DCCT percentages to IFCC mmol/mol (for HbA1c) but some practices still give figures in percentages.

You'll find a lot of experience on these forums and that many people are very willing to help and answer questions. Many newly diagnosed people don't have much explained to them at the point of diagnosis. All of us have been where you are now, and there is no such thing as a stupid question, so ask away.

best of luck!
