Hi
Yes i am a t1 with a lazy thyroid, your Dr will prob send you to have a blood test to confirm it. Before i knew my thyroid was **** i gained weight, became a bit depressed and generally just felt ******, however when i was prescribed thyroxin it was like i was a new man. Don't panic tho its only a couple of tablets in the morning.
Hope this helps

Hi welcome to the forum, I am type 2 and have no thyroid gland at all, I take thyroxine twice daily and have a blood test every 6 months, I am really well though.

However a couple of years ago when I was abroad on holiday I had my bag snatched with my medication in it, I saw a local doctor and got my thyroxine or so I thought, it was all a bit shifty really there, not very civilised, I stayed 3 weeks there and gradually became more and more uncomfortable really, gained weight and this time it was not from over eating, my skin was dry and I felt weepy all the time, and even though the tempearature was in the 30s I felt cold, a blood test back home soon confirmed that I was really low on thyroid hormone.

I hope that you are feeling better really soon.

hello,
I'm T1 with an underactive thyroid. comared to the diabetes the thyroid problem is a doddle.
I did find when I first start on thyroxine that it affected my diabetes, but not by a massive amount .

all the best,
timo.

i take thyroxine but my gp tells me that my thyroid and diabetes can interact oddly with each other and its something i just need to live with but not very helpfull

Hypothyroidism and diabetes are both auto-immune disorders, I have had both for several years and both conditions are well controlled, I dont even need meds for diabetes any more now yet at one stage I came close to having to inject insulin, I only need thyroxine twice daily. I may have been extremely lucky with regards to diabetes, so far so good, but who knows whats around the corner for me, I dont think about and live each day as it comes, it is not something that I am worried about because I have learnt from here that there are so many people doing well with their medication.

Even if you do need medication to control diabetes dont feel a failure about it, do all that you can do to achieve good bg levels, I attend a self=help group for diabetics and 2 members have hypothyroidism, they are both on medication and are doing very well with all that.

Here is a link to the British Thyroid Foundation http://www.btf-thyroid.org/

Try not to get too stressed out, its not good for your diabetes/general well being.

Thank you Sarah, I shall check this out for sure.

I have always taken on tablet in the morning and one at night, I didnt even know this about calcium thing either. So far, since the thyroidectomy, I have taken in total 200mcg of thyroxine per day.

I will let you know what my doctor has to say.

Thanks again
