Is diabetes hereditary?

My crazy mother had diabetes but what type I have no idea, my older brother is a self inflicted insulin dependent T2.

I never met my grandparents when they were alive, so would not have clue what they were.

As far as I know my two sons are not diabetic, neither are their children

The simple answer is yes, diabetes is hereditary.

My husband is t1, his father and grandmother were both t1s

In my family my dad was diagnosed t2, never overweight, very active, very healthy diet turned out to be LADA, Other members on his side going back decades where late onset t1.

Now it's my turn diagnosed t2 at 44, 4 years later on insulin and lchf diet, awaiting GADS test etc. My bg was 18.3 with ketone level of 2.1, 3 weeks ago, they now think I'm t1.
