Somehow I had managed to miss this gem .. I feel it deserves even more publicity than it has had

I'm sure it has been posted on the forum already but .. worth a second watch.

Edit to add the title is far too simplistic for the video's content.

Yeah the man is a real gent. A great English diabetes ambassador.

I have no doubt that our US brethren think we’re all either like him, or cockney Londoners straight off the set of a Guy Ritchie movie

No, my diabetic consultant for the last 25 years is

My boss is!

The nicest woman is the wife!

I had never heard of him till I joined this forum.

As for nicest person, that's my partner of fifty years...

Absolute gentleman, who I had the honour of meeting and hearing talk just before Christmas

I saw this some weeks back.

The work he has done is fantastic. However I am a very disappointed that his results and method are falling on deaf ears. I am also disappointed that the OBE that someone very well connected with him told me was imminent, has not yet been awarded. Hopefully when the country wakes up to his work and message then the OBE will follow.

He is really self effacing and huble yet inspiring. I'd disagree that his message is falling on deaf ears: he is training other GPs via RCGPs, low carb is an NHS recommended diet and I think that low carb is becoming more mainstream and cna't be dismissed as faddish anymore. Diabetes UK happen to have funded the research for the 800 kcal method which Michael Mosely has jumped upon the back of but going low carb is a very viable alternative to Plant Based or that!
Will just put a plug in for this great cookbook in which he appears:

You obviously didn't watch it to the end..

Bearing in mind David Unwin fronts up an RCGP training module, relating to T2 diabetes, his work with PHCUK, his world-wide speaking programme (last year, I seem to recall US, Australia, and of course, many, many UK based events. I know he spoke at our local NHS GP's regular meeting (by local, I mean a couple of cheek-by-jowl CCGs), around this time last year. Unfortunately, I was away, so could not attend.

He has come up in conversation at the NIHR, where I am involved, which happens to be attached to a highly regarded Diabetes Centre, the staff of which include allegedly 2 of the top 10 diabetes specialists in the world. https://diabetestimes.co.uk/two-lei...0-list-of-worlds-leading-diabetes-clinicians/ OK, a late 2018 article, so not absolutely current.

I'm not sure what else you expect a semi-retired GP to do for his patients and those living with diabetes (his expertise is T2, to be fair) as a whole. I think he's doing one heck of a lot already.

I think the man is a miracle worker, and having had the opportunity to meet and talk with him several times, I would say a genuinely interesting and interested man, who really does care for others.

We could do a lot worse than to have many more just like him.

I am not expecting him to do any more than he is doing. I am not sure why you think I think that. I am however hoping that the messages and results he puts out are not ignored by many members of the health care fraternity that many members on this forum report back on, including myself.

There are obviously many surgeries and health care professionals that are still blind to his work and results. We are seeing this every day. That is disappointing.

Does that answer your question?

I'm not entirely sure I could state his work is ignored by HCPs. That they do not, at this time, act upon his information isn't the same as ignoring it.

Yes, some resist it. Some are scared to interpret the NICE Guidelines boldly and some will indeed ignore, but I would certainly not go wholesale on that.

Conversations with HCPs in a non consulting environment are often very different from in their consulting rooms. Of course, that could be considered to be disappointing, or hopeful, but,it is how I often find things.

Effectively ignored.

I was looking for a good video of Dr David Unwin a few weeks back. It was then that I came across this one. I didn’t get a chance to watch all of it as I was busy but was personally interested in what he had to say about salt.

Coincidentally today there was an HSE instruction at work and the topic moved on to allergens and the food product. There were 14 on the list. After the short course I suggested to the Technical Manager (who delivered the instruction) that one day sugar might be included on that list. He agreed and then said “and salt”. He then went on to explain that he suffered from low blood pressure and his wife who is a doctor at Blackpool hospital had told him to eat more salt. I asked him to let me know how he got on.
