Is it likely i have diabetes

Messages

Today i visited the opticians and he told me to get tested for diabetes, because he said there was a build up of sugar in one of my eye lens (something like that). I've been reading some of the symptons asssociated with Diabetes and realise i can associate with some of them such as exceptional thirst and fatigue among others.
There is no history of it in my family although i don't know about my dad's side as i have no contact with them.
I also wanted to know, how do they test for it? as i have an appointment next week with the doctors.
Thanks

Hi.
Welcome.

As you are going to see your GP about this your blood will no doubt be analysed and the results given to you. There may be a delay for this. Other tests may well be made.

Ken.

hya,
its usually a blood test, if in the meantime you get unwell seek medical advice as type 1 can make u ill quickly, let us know how u get on :D

There is also no diabetes in my family whatsoever but I got diagnosed with type 1.

I left my symptoms for a while thinking the thirst and tiredness was something else and the hospital said I was in a dangerous state.

Don't delay, see your GP today!!

Type 1 diabetes doesn't often run in families. Type 2 tends to ( I am third in a direct line and possibly fourth.)
Symtoms like youdescribe need checking.
