Sugar! :(
I'm 17 years old and I've been a diabetic type 1 for 11 months. They had to place me at a hospital at the first 15 days of my diabetic and since when I got out, my blood sugar has been pretty good till 2 months ago. It was always around 70 to 200 but these days it is never below 180. I actually had to go to the hospital and rest a bit last week because my doctor told me that there must be a major problem about me. So I went to the hospital and they monitored my blood sugar. AND IT WAS 90. I've been trying to lower my blood sugar for 2 months but when I went to the hospital it showed 90 and at the time I was resting at the hospital, it was always normal. So they tried If my inculine is not getting active but my inculine actually worked there. So they checked If my roche accu check go is broken but It is not broken either. So I got out of the hospital yesterday and today, my sugar is around 250. At first I didn't believe it but I don't even believe my doctor anymore. They checked If anything is wrong in my blood but nothing is wrong. My hba1c was 8 last time they checked. I'm gonna go crazy. I'm not eating anything that can increase my bs but still.

ps. sry for my english .

Welcome to the forum, can you give us some idea of what you do eat then we may be able to help you.
In the UK we use mmol/L for our blood sugar levels. To convert to this please divide your mg/dl by 18 so that we can better assess your blood sugar level numbers.

Hmm. I use Humulin R before the meals and Humulin N before sleep.

Well if I should make a list, these are mostly what I eat;

(7:00AM)Breakfast:
----------------
- 1 Slice of Bread
- 1 Apple
- Cup of tea or coffee (I add a bit of splenda to it)
- Half a tomato
- Around 2 slices of cheese (which are about the size of an Iphone when summed up :D )
- Egg

I mostly eat same things in breakfast because it is pretty fast to eat all of these and also my dietician recommended these.

Snack(11:00AM)
----------------
These snacks never change. I always take the same snacks everyday. Only the fruit or type of biscuit changes. But the amounts are same.

- Fruit
- 3-4 pieces of biscuit(non-sugar)

(1:00PM)Lunch
----------------
Well this always changes of course but it is around this

- Soup
- Salad
- Vegetables a bit
- 2 slices of bread
- Rice or pasta (amounts are around 2-3 tablespoons)
- Meat (about the size of 3 big meatballs)

(4:30PM)Snack
----------------
- Fruit
- 3-4 pieces of biscuit

(7:00PM)Dinner
----------------
Same as lunch but also with a bit yoghurt

(9:00PM)Snack
----------------
- 1/2 Fruit
- Yoghurt

(11:00PM)Snack
----------------
- 1/2 Fruit
- 3-4 pieces of biscuit

And about the mg/dl thing ;

My sugar was around 16 , 17 for the last 2 months and when I went to hospital last week they checked it and the monitor showed 5. So I rested at hospital for a few days and came back yesterday. Today I checked my bs and it is back to 13. I also seen 6 today which is weird. When I woke up today It was 16 , at 1:00PM it was 6 , at 7:00PM it was 15 and at 22:00 which is about an hour ago , it was about 17.

Weird right :?: :?

There is a lot of carbohydrate in your diet but I would like a type one to give you some advice as I am not an insulin user.

Most dieticians( I sometimes wonder if they know :? ) won't tell you, but starch raises your blood sugar even more than table sugar does weight for weight.
This means you have to control it in some way, either by portion or simply by reducing it. Get a book "Collins Little Gem Carohydrate Counter" or the "Little Gem Calorie counter" have all the information you need on amounts of carbs in food. they are tiny books and available cheaply on Amazon.
Read my pieces on what constitutes a carbohydrate and what they do in the body. I think it's still in the "stickies".
Since you give your blood readings in mg/dl, you are obviously not in Britain. If I know where you are, I might be able to give more help
Hana
I'm not an insulin user, but I'm married to one and we have found "Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution" a very helpful book

Well I'm in Turkey and It'd be a little bit hard for me to get something from Amazon but I'll try to look for it in the bookstores.

I think they give the fruits so that my blood sugar don't drop too low. So I tought that a fruit would increase my blood sugar pretty much but my dietician and my doctor tells me not to forget my snacks and eat them at those hours. Dietician actually said that my sugar might be high because I didn't take the snacks for some time so I started my snacks again but nothing changed -.-.

They say that stress increases bs a lot but I don't have much stress at all anyway. I'm actually pretty relaxed these days. If I could actually found why my bs increases, I'd be feeling much more relaxed anyway.

Hello,

I've just joined the community having just been diagnosed with Type 2. So I'm not offering advice about diabetes other than to say I already know you're doing right to come to this Forum for help.

Your English is really brilliant - well done. I'm an English Coach here in France where I live, and I've spent all day working on the phone with people in the Paris finance sector. Your English is much better than most of theirs!

I see there's no Amazon in Turkey which is a shame as each company has access to all their books. This means that I order English books from Amazon France to take advantage of the no p& p offer. However, it's still easy to order from Amazon.co.uk or from the branches in other European countries. It just costs extra in postage. I'm now ordering the Collins Carb book.

Anyway, best of luck. I'm really impressed by your English.

Jane.

Thanks for the compliment. My English is pretty much better than %90 of my country but still I have some problems with some simple stuff I think. I actually want to go to Britain to get a bit of that British accent they are talking which I adore pretty much. I hope you'll recover pretty fast. Type 2 can be treated really easily with plants and pills and a little bit of exercise. I hope you'll be better soon. Just take it easy and slow.

I'll search at the ebay for that book I think. I hope I can find someone who can actually send that book or something similar. I realize that I should have started searching for a little book like that long ago. I never calculated carbohydrates before. I mostly tought that I shouldn't only eat soup, pasta and bread too much because they are the carbohydrates themselves but I've seen that there are lots of people that take that thing really serious in this forum and I'd like to thank for that advice now. :)

I have another question. Is there anyone using splenda? It tastes much better than sugar I think but I'm not sure If it actually effects the bs. It is made for diabetics but It has loads of callories I think. The other sweeteners had no callories in them as they have no signs on them here in Turkey.

Well back to my problem, Is there any tips you people can give me? Thanks for everything.

Unfortunately, Firstclass, type two is not curable and, like type one, is for life. It can however be controlled by diet, exercise and medication.

I use Splenda sometimes. It is fine for me as I like something sweet on my cereals. Has no effect on my Bg levels. For most Diabetics it is not calories that are the problem, it is carbohydrates as they convert to Glucose in the blood. That is what will elevate your Bg levels.

Splenda contains per 100g
391 calories
0g protein
97.7g carbohydrates
6.9g of which sugars
0g fat
0g of which saturates
0g of fibre
Trace Sodium

One level teaspoon has 0.5g carbohydrates as opposed to one level teaspoon of sugar which contains 5g carbs. Splenda tastes good too.

I didn't think that It'd effect my bs so fast but It did! I decreased carbos and my bs was pretty much better today. Infact, the previous day it was around 13 but today it was around 9 and even decreased to 4. It is amazing how it worked so fast. I didn't think that I ate that much of carbos but now I realise that I've been eating too much carbohydrates in snacks and lunch times.
