Is it possible to change meters etc?

Hi,
I was given a One Touch Ultra Easy blood glucose monitor and the pen type device that you use to prick your finger-my question is is it possible to change the monitor and finger pricker while still getting the strips and lancets on the NHS? I don't mind paying for the actual monitor and finger pricker but wouldn't be able to afford the test strips and lancets. Is this something I need to talk to my diabetic nurse about? I was thinking that this forum is the best place for the best advice. :)
Thanks
Kerrie

Hi when I changed my meter, I got my dsn to write a letter to my gp, before this if I put on a prescription request for the new strips, they would just give me the old strips lol.

When I have changed my meter, I just use the form that normally come with it or write on the repeat perscription please change the strips to the new meter details, giving them the pip code (strip identification code also helps as saves them time), which is either on the form that comes with the meter or you can get it from the suppliers web site.

Just about to do it again as recently changed my meter.

Yep new meter normally comes with little card with new lancet type & strip pip code. My surgery was a bit useless so had to visit with card to show them pip code as kept giving me old strips

Perhaps you should ask the nurse , there's been a lot of members lately saying that their gp surgery is only issuing prescriptions for one make of test strips due to costing, so before you go out and buy a new meter I would check first.

Yes - you can change at anytime. It seems like GP's are getting stricter on who can test, but if you currently get a prescription then swopping should not be a problem.

Spoke to the doctor to get my strips changed to the new meter, she could hardly understand what I was saying and did not have a clue what pip codes are. As a result she put the wrong strips on the repeat and now they have been removed completely.

What should of been a 2 minute task is now becoming a problem to get them re-added. I even took my repeat in to the GP afterwoods with the slip of paper giving the practice all the info they needed, looks like another letter to explain whats going on to see if they will re-add them.
