Not sure if I am over reacting but thought I would ask. I have had type 1 for the last eight years, my biggest worry is that I might pass this condition on to my two children.
Over the past couple of weeks my son who is 10 has been weeing a lot. It is the only thing he doesn't appear to be drinking lots or have any other symptoms but I am still concerned. A couple of weeks ago I noticed him going to the toilet every five minutes or so, I tested his blood and it was in the 5s so I forgot all about it.
I have noticed that he is still going to the toilet a lot.
Tonight was terrible he would go to the toilet come down stairs turn around and go back to the toilet. I asked if there was pain of stinging and he said no.
I listened and he was doing a decent wee every time.
I tested his blood again but it was about 30 minutes after eating and it was 7.
Should I be concerned or am I being stupid?

If he's not drinking lots, then where is the fluid coming from? Any weight loss?

Think if it was my kid I'd be down at the docs in the morning.

Thanks urban racer. No he has no weight loss and isn't showing any other symptoms. Checked his bg this morning and it was 4.2 so feeling a bit happier. I will keep an eye on him over the weekend.

Coukd it be a kidney/urinary issue? My niece had that. I can't remember what she was diagnosed with, but basically her bladder wasn't emptying fully. She kept going to the toilet but was retaining urine.

Another point - although it's normal for people to have stinging and burning with a urinary infection, some people don't, so maybe a doctor coukd check for that too?

Final thing - I'm paranoid about my children getting Type 1 too. One week my youngest was drinking and drinking and was all listless. I had that horrible sinking feeling that it might be diabetes, but her BS was normal. It turned out to be just one of those things.

So don't worry. Just monitor him and get a Dr to check him over as a precaution. Hopefully, everything will be fine : )

What sorts of things does he drink? If I drink water, it stays in my system for hours. If I drink fizzy drinks, they just go through me as quickly as they possibly can (my diabetes is well controlled, last hba1c was 5.4 so it's not down to high blood sugars). If your son is having lots of coke/diet coke then that could be the reason. If his blood sugars are sitting where they should be then I would not expect diabetes to be the case. However, the only way to be sure is to take him for a check up. Always better safe than sorry :)
