Prediabetes Is slow but steady ok?

I was diagnosed prediabetic with an Hba1c of 46 last January. The next, at the beginning of May, was 42 and the latest, done at the end of July is 41.
I lost weight quickly at first - 9kg in a couple of months. Since then it's still going down, but very slowly - only 1kg in the last three months! I've got a lot to lose still.

I'm following LCHF, probably with too much emphasis on the HF! I take fairly strenuous walks almost every day and I feel very well.
I'm contented to continue this way, as long as the figures continue to decline, even very slowly, but wonder if I should be working harder to reduce things faster?

At the moment life is challenging, someone very close to me is terminally ill, and I'm a comfort eater. I don't really want to deprive myself - lovely cheeses, berries and cream and a bit of red wine are getting me through some hard times! But I don't want to put my health in jeopardy.

I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loved one's illness. As you say, it's an incredibly difficult time for you.

If you are content to continue as you are, then I think that should be good enough. I think anyone holding steady in your circumstances is doing very well. I'd be inclined to think you have enough to contend with, without making changes to your own routines and way of living, which require additional monitoring and the odd frustration, as those changes are assessed.

Perhaps you could consider re-looking at things when the bigger picture has settled a bit, and you may have a bit more time to devote to yourself. It could be that might give you something really positive to focus upon.

Don't be too harsh on yourself, and good luck with the coming period.

It sounds as though you're doing very well with your low carbing. Slow but steady is fine - and probably better in some respects - you're less likely to fall off the wagon if you take it easy and can enjoy what you're eating. Just think of it as a long term LCHF "lifestyle" rather than a fast fix-it diet . And you have other important and distressing issues to deal with at the moment, so you obviously need to give these high priority.

You're doing better than me, and I'm in fine fettle so you must be top-hole. Well done, keep going steadily and give yourself several pats on the back. A good example to all.

I think slow and steady is the best way for most people, unless the HbA1c level is very high.

Thanks so much for your kind replies. I'll trundle along as I am for now xxx
