I have various changes of brand names of Metformin, and never noticed any difference. As long as it has the correct 500 mg of Metformin Hydrocloride in them, it's good enough for me.

I am using my pharmacy's generic home brand of Metformin at the moment, which I believe are APO's tablets in a different box.

If you’re in the U.K. Metformin on prescription will be the cheapest brand available at the time. I’ve had a few different ones but I’ve noticed no difference.
