Hi,
I have recently been diagnosed with T2. I have to say that I am not pleased with the way my Health Centre have handled it all and I have had to complain to my Local Health Board to look into. Such a shame to have issues with people you have to put a lot of trust in.
I was sent for a GTT last first week of December 2008 at a local hospital. They advised me that the results would be sent to my Health Centre who would contact me if they needed to. I heard absolutely nothing so I assumed all was OK- foolish me.
A couple of weeks ago I had to conatct the HC to arrange to have blood taken prior to my 3 monthly follow up appointment for my cancer. I am now in remission(1 year now!). I arranged the appt and then just in passing decided to mention the GTT last December. The receptionsist said she will get the nurse to ring me back. This she did and then told me that I was to be treated as a diabetic. I then had an appointment with a nurse who gave me a rather sketchy overview of everything. She said she did not even have time to show me how to use the monitor! She also said that I should only check readings now and again. She then gave me a booklet to read and that was about it really. I am more or less left to my own devices.
I also asked if there was any link to the chemotherapy I had that may have a bearing on the matter. She couldn't help with that either. I had 8 cycles of the R-CHOP chemotherapy. I also get bad pins and needles in my fingers and feet. That is also a side effect of chemo and I have read it is also a sign of diabetes.
So you can see I am in a pretty confused state of mind. Thank God for a site like this where I can ask questions and educate myself.
Pete
