Hi

As above, I am new to diabetes T2 and have eaten for my tea some chicken with brown bread. I tested my blood 2 hours later and its 11.5 I wondered if there is an area here that describes what you should be aiming for 2 hours later etc?

Thanks.

fasting should be between 4-7
2 hours after meal should be 8.5 or less
please note these guidelines apply to type 2 im not sure what the targets are for type 1

According to research Over a period of 15 years a diabetic with an HbA1c of 7% has 4 times more risk of developing retinopathy than a diabetic with an HbA1c of 6%. If the HbA1c is 8% over that time period, then the risks are 16 times greater. (data provided on request)

sorry to be pessimistic but i am aiming as low as possible. i am only 40 and have 2 kids to live for.(preferably with all my bits intact.)

Well done Louise....spot on with the information from the NICE 2010 guideline Bg levels for T2's.
The only difference with Type 1's are that the 2 hr post meal levels shouldn't exceed 9 mmol/l.
