If anyone on here is on Eucreas please could you tell me what your experience was like. Any nasty surprises ?
And does anyone know what if anything happens if you stop taking them for say a month.
Has anyone drunk alcohol while taking them? What happened?
Has anyone had liver or Kidney problems with them?
Do the tablets cancel the need to avoid carbs and sugar to any extent so you can eat more relaxed?

I detest taking tablets of any sort but these Eucreas scare me badly for some reason.
Thank you very much

I have a similar cocktail of Metforin SR, and a different brand of DPP-4 inhibitor but as separate pills.
No problems, and good control.
But I am on a diet, calories counting, and avoiding bad carbs, but I say with absolute certainty there is no problem with excesses of alcohol on my mix, (apart from using most of my days calories up).
All my bloods have been good, so no liver or kidney problems.

Thank you so much. Excellent information.

Don't get me wrong - I don't have six pints every night and ten on Saturday (I might have done in the distant past) but at Christmas I really enjoy McEwans Champion and a drop or two of Merlot-- in separate glasses.

The rest of the year maybe 2 pints a week total. But the drug's website says NO alcohol. I have found this with lots of things just lately ---I think they are taking the easy line and saying "NO" I note they never say why.

Many thanks

Hi. I was on Gliclazide for a few years together with Metformin SR which I'm still on. Alcohol is normally OK in sensible quantities and your annual diabetes check includes a urine analysis for kidney function. Neither drug has a dramatic effect on blood glucose so you still need to be careful with all carbs and adjust these to ensure your blood glucose is in the right region.

Gliclazide is a different type of drug to a DPP-4 inhibitor. Having said that, I have mixed both with alcohol, with no unpleasant side effects.

The ale could be a problem, usually high strength in beer means high sugar content, I used to like dark Belgium ale, now it's Coors Light. Merlot I'm good with, and other dry wines. Spirits with diet mixers, but the mixers give me a headache from the sweeteners.

"This combination of Metformin and alcohol can also lead to some potentially severe consequences, one of which is a resulting possible side effect of lactic acidosis. This can be fatal if not treated in time. This condition can occur when the blood does not have enough oxygen, which is required to transport the glucose throughout the body. The glucose then transforms into lactic acid. Although this is a naturally produced chemical agent within the body, increased levels can result in potentially fatal toxic effects.

This resulting lactic acidosis and Metformin side effects with alcohol consumption will first appear in the form of breathing difficulties, fluctuations in heartbeat, nausea and vomiting."

That's the dire warning over metformin, which is why the no alcohol rule applies. But the warning signs come first, and I had a look online myself initially, and couldn't find any actual cases of it happening in reality.
