I am still in shock after hearing my underweight, healthy, 31 yo brother has T2, he has been told it is inherited and he couldn't have prevented it as it is prevalent in both sides of the family. I am now of course worrying, I don't have any of the usual symptoms, I'm not thirsty or unrinating a lot but for the last 6 months-1 year I have had very sensitive eyes when I wear my contact lenses, they go very red and sore. I am going to see my doc to get tested, my daughter is now 3 but I was tested twice in my pregnancy and all was fine but I am now thinking "when" rather than "if"

Hi Skatty.

Glad to hear that you are going to see your GP, however, I think I would be more inclined to see an Optician/Opthamologist and get your contact lens problem sorted out. My daughter had problems similar to yours some while ago, she had to change her lenses before it cured the problem. She was allergic to a particular brand.

Although Diabetes can sometimes have a family conection, that is not always the case. I am a Diabetic Type 2 and nobody in my family or previously has had Diabetes, I am unique, the first !

Thank you for you quick reply :) I think you are right I also need to get to the opticians, I think there are lenses for sensitive eyes. I am kind of panicking because my other brother also drinks so much and he is overweight, I hope he gets checked out because I have a feeling he could also be T2 like our mum. Both our nan's were T2 and died of diabetic related heart problems :(
