I'm due to see the diabetic nurse on Monday as my Hba1c has risen although since my results two weeks ago I am really doing well with low carbing and can already see an improvement in my BS readings. I'm not sure though if I have some neuropathy which I will mention to the nurse on Monday. Basically, I feel some pins and needles in my left ankle and foot (and a bit of a muscle ache on my top left thigh) but I've had the neuropathy test where they test with an instrument under the feet and I can always feel it. Hopefully this is not neuropathy as I'm a bit worried now that it could be. What is it supposed to feel like?

I have pins and needles in my food and it aches, the doctors said it sounds like a trapped nerve, maybe look up the symptoms for that, it could be that

Hi Carina62, what this feels like is going to be dependant on how progressive and whether it is even related to DB at all. I have a small patch of skin on two of my toes where I have numbness and no feeling. No pain, no inconvenience.
My mother-in-law also has T2 and some arthritis and her pain is such that some days she can't bear any clothing or foot wear to touch her feet and has constant pins and needles which really gets her down.
Maybe you need to go back to your GP/Nurse and be tested more thoroughly?

Any damage to sensory nerves can result in tingling and numbness. Here are the symptoms for sciatica

Common symptoms of sciatica include:
  • Lower back pain.
  • Pain in the rear or leg that is worse when sitting.
  • Hip pain.
  • Burning or tingling down the leg.
  • Weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot.
  • A constant pain on one side of the rear.
  • A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up.

So it might just be one of those things that will clear up in time. You never know your luck.

Don't worry too much. I'm not diabetic but have some pins and needles and occasional muscle ache. I put it down to being 64. ;)

It's an excellent idea to make sure symptoms aren't due to control issues or neuropathy with your DSN.
