Is this within normal ranges?

Hi,

I'm just looking into insulin resistance as a reason for my spells of extreme fatigue and found this board. I took my blood sugar, and have done some googling but its very confusing! My blood sugar was 4.7 mmol/L two hours after 450 calories (healty calories). 7.9 about 10 minuets after a apple, cup of soup and some whey. Would you say thats within normal ranges? I'm 24 and 130 lb. I eat 2500 calories a day and 2-3 hour intervals, if that has any bearing.

Yes that seems pretty normal.what do you call healthy? Low fat/high carb????

Thanks. Lol, healthy I mean no junk food. I have a 30% protien 60% carb abd 20% fat in each meal, I get my fat from seeds and nuts. In essence, mostly fruit, veg, seeds and nuts. I found sticking to a low gi diet generally stops me getting really tired.

If you are sointerested in diet, that you can quote your percentages, I would recommend you read "the Diet Deception" by Gary Taubes He questions the whole concept of "healthy balanced diet" and has trawled through reams of published, peer reviewed material. My copy has nearly 100 reference pages.
I'm sugesting this to you, because 60% carbs is very high. You don't need it and unless you are running constant marathons, it might be harming you. A Very high carb diet is a possible cause of Insulin Resistance. If your carbs are rfrom grains, they are not digestible unless cooked!

Lol, it does make me look a little pedantic I know... but I did have very bad problems. I had a very low weight, days I was too tired to leave my room and the doctors had no clue. So I started to look at my diet, my fat and protien levels where very low so I boosted them to 40% and 20% I'm talking roughtly here though... Which means I've lowed my carb intake and I avoid all simple carbs and really it's changed everything, but I still have bad days, where I get exhusted for no reason and sometimes get blinding headaches for no apparent reason.

But I hear your advice and I will try boosting my fat higher and see if that makes a difference. Thanks very much for your reply, much apphreciated!

Hey, thanks thats usefull. I think my blood pressure is OK, one time the doc said it was quite high. Lipids, no idea. Will def do some intensive testing once I get some more strips and experiment a little more with diet, see how a non-low fat/high carb diet goes. I think I really need to test when I have symtoms. Thanks!

Is this because fat burns the slowest? As protien allso burns slower then carbs, shouldn't a high protrein diet slow down the carbs as well as a moderate fat intake?

I should point out that no everyone believes that the low-carb diet is counter-productive. It's a hot topic of conversation, to say the least.

Lol, certainly is. I've read so much stuff saying go for high carb, or high protien or high fat that I think I'm just going to eat 33/33/33 and be done with it :D
