Hi all

I am beginning to wonder if I really do have diabetes or if I just had far too much sugar in my blood due to really bad eating habits-if that's possible :?:

I had my hb1ac test done this morning. When I self-tested 1st thing this morning it was 5.8. I was fasting so didn't have any breakfast or metformin. After the doctors, I had a banana then when I got to work I decided to have a twirl (already had blood taken so I thought if going to cheat then today is best day to do it  ). My levels have been really good so far and I have stayed off chocolate since diagnosis (except aldi's) Anyway, got sent home due to the high winds. Had corned beef sandwich and 4 chocolate digestives (no it's not a typing error  ) and 3 chocolate fingers. Then a bar of aldis mint choc at 12g per bar and some nuts. About 2 hours later I came to my senses and thought I'd better test, the reading will be high and frighten me into stopping the rollercoaster. Couldn't believe it 5.8  After that reading I had another 2 chocolate digestives. I'm afraid I am on the slippery slope...

Don't get me wrong I am really pleased with this but also curious. It just doesn't seem right

Any opinions? or have I just been lucky this time?

Had to laugh when i read this. You sound like me  Got know answers though. I think it's to do with the type of sugars that we eat.

I think its called "In denial" :D I was the same after I was first diagnosed. For the first 6 months my readings where great, and I hadnt really changed my diet, although I was excercising, but I thought they have misdiagnosed me, and I started to let my guard down, and surprise surprise my readings started to go up and up. luckly I have got everything back under control again, and even now I'm thinking, do I really have diabetes? But I know it's there, and if I let my guard down again I know I'll be back to square one. In saying that, what I would do to be able to eat all that chocolate in one day and have those readings, yum yum :D
P.S Have you thought about trying to off your Metformin? That would be my first goal

I'm pretty amazed at my tolerance for chocolate. It doesn't seem to hit my BG the way I thought it would. For example on Tuesday, I had shepherds pie, ice cream and half a plum crumble and a glass of wine. Tempted by the dark side I had half a bag of M&S belgian covered toffee popcorn (drool) with my coffee. Two hour reading 8.2, 2.5 hours 7.4 (good for me).

On the other hand, I'm beginning to suspect that any kind of rice sends my BG through the roof.

Very starng disease, this :o
