Re: It works fine for me...... Or carbs don't do me any harm
I think it is just a case of do what you need to, to be safe. If I ate 120 carbs a day I would not be well, I would have to take more medication which is something I would not really like to do I will save that for later if needed. I do however feel that putting your head in the sand and hoping you will be OK is not a good thing. Ignorance is not bliss and in later years I am sure it would be a cause for regret. I also think we have a responsibility to ourselves to be as well as possible for as long as possible. I am not completely convinced diabetes is progressive and I think keeping it under control - however you do it- will help you not to suffer the consequences later. I know other T2s who live their life in complete oblivion and because they do not go over a reading of 11 and show up on their urine sticks they feel they are fine. Well, I am not a Dr but I don't think any Dr would say levels of 9 and above are actually good for you, but the T2s I know will never know as they are oblivious to it, and in a perverse way we probably do not want to know they are happy bumbling along until it all goes wrong. if you are diabetic I think you need to take responsibility for yourself and deal with it however you need to. I have high blood pressure and deal with that in the same way, although medication is a necessary for me I do monitor it carefully myself I do not leave it to a Dr to do once a year, it is my disease and my body and I am responsible for keeping it as well as possible. I am not a fanatic and aften forget to exercise and have a glass of wine extra but I don't eat a mars bar or eat a spoonful of salt because I know it is bad for me the same as I would not eat McDonalds every day because it has been proved it will kill me! It is a fact that tomorrow will come and bring whatever we have helped it to pile up for us. I can honestly say it will not be for the want of trying not to pile too much up for me.
