Hi, I have the most terrible itching around my genitals. There is not any discharge or wetness and is only around the outside. I have been using Sudocream which will ease it and it will clear up usually within 24 hours but then after another day or 2 it will be back. I have seen the doctor who gave me cream for thrush but this made it a Million times worse and caused a rash and severe burning for nearly 10 days. I have type 2 diabetes and was diagnosed 4 years ago just over borderline .I've had the itching for nearly 2 years now and is really getting me down. My legs also itch and there is nothing there to cause it.I take Metformin once a day and when testing my diabetes it is very rarely out of normal range. Any advice please.

Some people do react badly to anti-fungal creams. Have you tried Diflucan? Check with your doctor first of course. It's a tablet that you swallow.

Has the doctor confirmed it's definitely thrush? What are your blood sugar results like ie in figures.
 
No he hasn't confirmed it was thrush. He looked at me and said he couldn't see anything there. My blood sugars usuall test within normal range.

Get some swabs just to be sure what you're dealing with..
 
It doesn't sound like any sort of diabetes complication I know of, but I'm not a doctor (or indeed a woman). You should probably ask your GP if you can be referred to a specialist, or as it's genital-related, there are drop-in clinics which are easier to access. You don't have to have an STI to go there.
 
 
My diabetic nurse prescribed hydrocortisone/miconazole cream, you have to keep it in the fridge, works wonders for me.

Also given emollient cream to stop me scratching my legs.
 
Have you tried E45 itch relief?
 
When I was taking Metformin I was going mad scratching - it is a 'rare side effect' - according to the information sheet.
There was no outward sign - except for where I'd scratched my skin. I had to cut and file down my nails as I scratched myself when asleep.
Ordinary moisturising cream did help for a little while, then it was back. I could not use my usual shower gel without making it worse, but did find that frequent showering without any soap at all did help.
