Itchy infusion site

Does anyone else's infusion sites get REALLY itchy by the second/third day? Mine always get a little bit itchy but right now it is so unbearably itchy that I'm thinking about going home from work to change it (due to change it tonight).

Yes !!!!! I hate it and even after I change that area itches for a while .
 
Sometimes.. Struggled getting set off tonight.. New Insight sets really stick!! Its the glue rather than the cannulas with me though.

I think it's the cannulas for me. I've been using teflon cannulas so I might give the metal ones a try.

So it under the tape you have the itch? If so there's a reaction to the sticky on the tape use some cavilon spray to act as a barrier it will remove the itch.
If it's at the site of the insertion then it the actual cannula so try a metal one. Personally I found them hideous but each to their own :)
 
If the itch problem is due to the adhesive on the Inset II or 30, changing to the Contact D might not help as there will be 2 bits of adhesive that will need to be stuck on the body. I got around this by sticking the steel needle adhesive on the body but the other bit on a piece of clear flexible plastic and cutting around the adhesive circle with a pair of scissors so that I could unclip the tube ok. With all the steel needle sets, I always loosen the adhesive with medical adhesive remover which is available on the web and take advantage of the free samples before buying.
 
There are people that get bad itching from flex sets of any type.

Anaelena.. You made me chuckle...metal ones for me have been the best!! Good to hear you've had a pump for 18 years!!
 
It's definitely the cannula that has been causing the irritation. There's a big red bump at the site of insertion. I usually always get a red bump but it was worse than usual yesterday. I tried a metal one last night and so far there's been no irritation :)
 
What make cannula were you using. I had probs with the Insight new ones.. (One of the flex cannula actually came out whilst the glue and set piece was still stuck firmly down!). They seemed a little thicker than the old combo ones.

I've been using the Inset 30. Wow! That seems crazy that that would happen!

I use the inset 30 as well and have no problems at all.
Just a thought once you remove the set can you dab some antihistamine cream on the itch to see if that helps?
 
I occasionaly get a site that can be irritable but not big red bumps when I take them out. Mine seem to be worse if they've been a little sore when I have inserted them.

I could try that. There is still a big red bump 2 days later :(

If the big red lump has a centre ie where the cannula went in, then you have an infection. So hot compress would be the order of the day and if at all worried see your GP or practice nurse.
