Itchy Urethra

So this is a long shot in the hopes that I’m not the only male that is suffering from this.

As my title states I have got an itchy urethra. Now this all started about a week after I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in March 23. I have been to the GP multiple times and had many different tests and just in case antibiotics. This has ranged from a possible diagnosis of urethritis, yeast infection, nitrates in urine. I had a urethral cystoscopy and they found a build up of excess skin on the inside which they subsequently removed, I was itch free for about 4 weeks but since my healing the itching has returned with a vengeance.

I watch my sugar intake but unfortunately I have always found it hard to drink enough fluids (even before I was diagnosed).

I am at the end of my tether and just don’t know what to do.

Is this diabetic related or not! Just seems bizarre that it all started after my diagnosis and no-one can give me a straight answer!

Any advice would be appreciated.

So it started a week after diagnosis? Am I guessing right that it might also be a week since you started medication that can cause rashes/itching/hives, like metformin?

Might be worth a shot trying to go without for a week or two, see whether it clears up?
(Mind you, we can't give medical advice, just.... It's as good a guess as any, and it kind of makes sense...)

When your blood glucose is high there is also excess glucose in other body tissue and fluids, and in my case that led to things like mouth infections and balanitis, which might have been the single worst symptom I had. Fortunately gone.

I'd strongly advise asking your doc.

Thanks for replying, I actually started on Gliclazide then changed to Linagliptin and have since started Absagalar Insulin with it.
I suppose thinking about it, maybe it is medication related as I also was made to start Atorvastatin! ( diabetic and over 40!!!).

I will definitely discuss this again with my GP.
Thank you

A build up of skin, and itching in the genital area are listed, but relatively rare side effects of that statin. You might have found your culprit.

Hi @JoKalsbeek, do you have a link to this information? statements like this on the forum need links
Thanks
Ah, give me a moment... The leaflet I had was Dutch, I'll try and find an English one.

https://www.nps.org.au/assets/medicines/1bc91578-68c1-4cd3-ad6c-a53300ff71f6.pdf comes close, I guess... But the Dutch one specifically mentioned skin flake "stacking" and itching/hives in the genital area.... ( https://db.cbg-meb.nl/bijsluiters/h113995.pdf ).

Guess being multilingual isn't always a perk. Sorry.
