Hello everybody. I have made a real mistake!! For 6 months I lived the LCHF diet quite happily. My blood tests went from 59 to 49 to 44. I was pleased and so were the medical staff but....... I slipped off the wagon! For the last month I have been eating bread, potatoes, chips! All sorts of things which I had been avoiding. I am now desperately trying to get back on track but I am finding it hard. I wish I hadn't allowed myself some treat time. And advice will be gratefully read. :)

Carbs are addictive, once you start eating them it's a vicious cycle.

You either eat them/ don't simples!

A few days of struggling and you'll be back on the wagon again!

Welcome back. You did it once, you can do it again. Not easy, but we'll help if you like :)
Here's some nice cauliflower soup :)

dont beat yourself up over it it happens non of us are perfect and the dark cold weather we have had calls you into chips and bread lol. make a plan of lchf and start on monday , if i can do it u can id never go back to that she says :) xx

Thank you for your kind and sensible replies. Today has been day 1 again and I have logged my food in mfp. If anyone thinks of something definitely low carb but tasty and filling please let me know. :)

Edit: This information is total carbs not net carbs, which is carbs less fiber. Go to next page for the correct information, under this topic. - Winnie 53 :)

Avocados are my go to food when I'm looking for carbs, fat, and protein. I just weighed a small avocado, pit and skin removed. Half a small avocado weighs 57 grams, and has 5 gram carb, 8 gram fat, and 1 gram protein. :)

Another favorite is 1 ounce (28 g) of nuts:

Walnuts - 4 g carb, 18 g fat, 4 g protein
Pecans - 4 g carb, 20 g fat, 3 g protein
Almonds - 6 g carb, 14 g fat, 6 g protein

Both make me feel better. :)

Thanks Winnie53 I often forget about avocados and I do like them. Yes Nocarb4 me bacon is delicious. I'll try Pinterest thank you

Bit off topic but I love avocados only trouble is I always eat the whole one at one sitting.

Is there a way of stopping the cut half from going brown and manky?

Thank you @Ali H for the suggestion. I've just been following a lot of their leads and listened to two of bernstein's lectures.

I belong to their FB group but it is quite tightly guarded and closed unless you have been "vetted" by a mod. I have been following LC for several months now, sadly not an ounce of weight loss but looking at my One Touch graphs, the majority of my readings are now between 5 and 7 with just a few up to 8 and barely any beyond that. I have an A1C next week, I am hoping it is better than 6.5 back in December......!

A low carb diet isn't necessarily a weight loss diet, Ali. You do to a certain extent need to watch calories as well, if you want to lose weight, and it isn't happening.:(:(

I cut the avocado in half, leave the pit in, then wrap tightly with plastic wrap - (place square of wrap over cut top with pit, then smooth around the avocado's protective skin and twist the wrap under the avocado). I then eat the half without a pit with a spoon, or if using on a sandwich or in a salad, I have a special slicer designed for avocados. With the stored half, there may or may not be browning. If there is, and it bothers you, use a small knife to trim off a thin layer from the top before eating. I never coat the cut surface with lemon juice.

By putting the other half away before eating, I'm less likely to eat both halves. If it's a snack and I'm really hungry, I might also eat an ounce of nuts, but one or the other is usually enough.

I buy three avocados at a time - (and typically eat a half a day). Once ripened on the counter, I put them in a bowl in the fridge so they don't get bumped and bruised, and then buy three more when I'm down to 1 or 2 avocados to start the process again so I always have avocados on hand. :)

I have on two occasions eaten a whole avocado but 10 grams is a lot if you're on a very low carbohydrate diet, particularly for a snack.

Ah, I can see how that would work rowan. :)

cyclist, interesting article. I like my method best - (described in my post above) - but I like these additional suggestions from the article's comment section:

"I spray mine with olive oil and it works like a charm. I use a "Misto" oil sprayer that I bought for $9.99 at World Market."

"The only method I have found that works is lemon or lime juice in an airtight container, avocado face down in the juice-no pit."

"Quartered and wrapped in cling film, they actually freeze and defrost without browning. Perfect for when they're ripening faster than you can eat them!"
