FOOTBALL. MY husband is a sports fanatic and watches everything. Most i can put up with just not football.
Been in hospital again for the 6th time since December. Not only was i crying with pain but also with frustration coz they never listen to me and they have never treated the problem. They just dope me up with morphine, put me on a fluids drip to treat the sickness and dehydration then send me home. This time i have come away with a diagnosis at last :clap: :thumbup: Chronic pancreatitis. I know its not cureable and I'll be on morphine tablets and anti sickness but i am really over the moon about it. I have answers. It also explains why my sugars are always so high and can be tackled a different way.
 
Oh mistee you really having a rough time lately.
I am surprised that they haven't kept you in hospital little longer. How will you be able to control your blood sugar, surely you cannot take Gliclazide etc any more?
Aw you poor little thing, but at least now you have a diagnosis.

I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis, but at last you finally know what the problem is. I hope you are able to get some real help now to ease your condition.
 
Mistee you take care of yourself. Hopefully things will get better for you from now.

The worst thing is when you're in pain and extreme discomfort NOT knowing what is the cause of it all...
Now you finally have a diagnosis :thumbup: , you can work with getting the right therapy for this, and soon be feeling much better.

I have recently joined that pancreatitis forum about aweek ago trying to find my own answers. It's not this forum but they are really nice. I am really bias now, this forum is home :D
They also mentioned that i am more than likely going to have to be on insulin and classed as a Type 1.
That is scary for me. Will anything change? :(
 
hi Mistee.... ((((hugs)))) it must be a relief to know what it is you're dealing with. Don't worry about if you have to take insulin as I've been on it since Feb 2010 and it's not really that bad after you get your head over the injecting thing (which to be honest only took me a day). Although I do find I hypo easier on insulin... but like everything with diabetes management it's a trial and error thing.
 
I have read about people on injections and measurements. Having to work out doses by what they have eaten or something and that sounds so worrying. I get so confussed very easilly :?
 
mistee - you will need to use insulin to deal with bg levels, I hope the hospital have taken you off the Gliclazide and other anti-diabetes medications, they could be downright dangerous to an already damaged pancreas.
Please dont say that you are sitting there on your own left to your own devices not knowing what to do over the holidays/until your dr or DSN is avaiable. I am serioiusly worried about you now.

How are you feeling, confused and shocked would be a fair guess, that would be quite normal, but listen to the other members, type 1s, they will be able to give you lots of good advice on how to manage insulin and bg levels.

I hope you can relax a little, and that you get some good support from the pancreatitis forum too, dont be afraid to ask for help and advice.
 
You guessed right. The only thing i left hospital with is codeine and told to see my gp on tuesday to make an appointment with a specialist. They never mentioned anything about my meds and i have asumed it would be best to carry on as normal until they told me any different. Like i said, at least i know why they wern't working that well.
 
OMG I despair, how could they just send you home like this? Not with pancreatitis, surely, are you in lots of pain, do you have a raised temperture? Have you asked them re your bg levels? If not, give them a call, just double check whether or not you are still ok to take the medication.
 
I did have a bit of a temp yesterday and they were pumping me full of liquid paracetamol as well as morphine and codeine. The pain they got under control just couldn't keep anything down til this morning. I feel completely fine again now the anti sickness and codeine seem to be working fine for now. They took my bg yesterday morning before i went in the ambulance and it was only 10.8 then. Haven't had it done since and i have no strips left to test.
 
Well be grateful for small mercies then, try to eat lowish carb things, only to make sure that you dont raise bg too high, I dont suppose that the meds will work for you.
I hope you can settle for the night, tomorrow is another day, if you have more pain or high temperature get back in touch witht the hospital.

Are you under the care of an endo still? Your endo will guide you as to what to do. My endo has me on a sliding scale at this stage. He tells me what basal insulin dosage to take and he tells me what bolus dosage to take too. I believe others... especially type 1's tend to do a carb ratio thing... but I've never been taught that at all. What I'm doing appears to be working fine and it's easy to remember. Sometimes I get hypos that can be sudden and unexplained... sometimes I can explain them... eg. wrong carb type and too much insulin for it. But I still see my endo regularly and he checks everything... he will allow me to adjust dosage by 2 units now and again... but he won't allow me to do my own thing necessarily... obviously because he is trying to get me controlled properly. I currently have 4 injections every day and sometimes I have more.. eg. having a snack or to correct. Mistee... it is really daunting at first... but you will get used to it very quick :D .. especially when there's no other choice which was what my experience was. You test your BGL a lot more often that's for sure. I hope you're feeling better... it's not good being unwell.... you need to get yourself medical attention quick too for your diabetes management as the drugs would be useless. ((((hugs)))))
 
Hey Mistee!

Don't worry yourself about the insulin - the needles are very small and really don't hurt. The insulin makes you feel much better very quickly and the carb counting isn't that hard once you get your head around it. After a few weeks you'll be so glad to feel better and will wonder why you ever worried about insulin.
