The first installment was very informative however they did not disclose what level of DBT2 medication the participants had been on before the start of the trial? All they said was that they ceased all medication. However their pre trial medication could have influenced their initial readings..

I started a thread about the program last night.. I was disgusted by the whole thing.. they told us you get diabetes by eating unhealthy food and getting fat and did not mention the word carbohydrate once.. The Truth About Carbs on the other hand a BBC1 program (I think still available on catchup) much more interesting and useful! Anyone with T2 who hasn't realised low carb is the way to go must have been so disheartened watching it thinking gunk the only way to get rid of it! The Truth About Carbs shows you can eat like a king on low carb food!! Unfortunately currently you have to cook it yourself or get someone else to as the food industry is doing its best to pretend that carbs don't exist!

I think bith programmes are pitched at a mass population without diabetes that likes their TV simple and lacking in complexity.
I think both programmes (fast fix & truth about carbs) , together with the other recent one about vlc diet on the Beeb , all lacked rigour and met their target audiences expectations.

I noticed that. Especially as cutting calories to 800 will imply that carbs are also cut dramatically and why that was mentioned is ridiculous. I've no doubt that weight loss is good for us if we're overweight, but to pinpoint that when it's glaringly obvious that carbs are also part of the equation is just poor science.

I know I sound like a broken record but it does depend on where you're getting those calories.

However their pre trial medication could have influenced their initial readings.

Their initial readings were fairly appalling and as I said on the other thread, weren't their GPs/DNs doing anything? Hopefully the whole issue with carbs is changing for the better now that the NHS is actually recommending a lower carb approach. In the past the advice was quite the opposite and I wonder if so many GPs/DNs found themselves with tied hands and patients with poorly controlled BG. Perhaps they didn't want to upset their patients and didn't want to tell them truth. Just got make sure they all read the memo as it's vital.

OK this scheme does seem to give positive results as indicated by the original Uni Newcastle study.

However it is obvious that to attempt this one would initially have to be (as the participants in the programme ) isolated with a monitored group of similar diabetics. It was obvious that the isolation, group therapy and expert monitoring were essential in kick starting the participants.

For the NHS to provide such facilities would probably be out of the question financially. However I have to ask are there such facilities available privately? If so where and at what cost?
