Hello all

I have been diabetic for 24 years.i have been on an an insulin pump for three years and I also self fund dexcom.

My partner and I have just had funding agrees for IVF. I am desperate to know how others have found this?

My consultant has just changed my insulin, and I'm trying to work with it. I'm also losing weight and exercising more which is all impacting on it.

Any words of wisdom? What worked? Is there anything I need to do? I think I am stressing so much that that's adding to the fluctuations.

My last hba1c was 46, but I am aware it needs to be better. My bloods more recently have gone a bit sporadic.

Happy thoughts to all and thank you for any help

Hi Gemmz,

I have also been approved funding and I am waiting to start my first round.

Stressing (easier said than done) definitely doesn’t help....

Not sure how it works for you but with my the IvF clinic are relying on me to know/manage the diabetes side of it. There has never been any communication from my consultant/DSN and the IVF unit. They were reliant on me knowing what I am doing....

A hba1c of <48 is recommended for pregnancy so the lower you can get it (as safely as possible) the better. I had lots of stops and complications along the way so in between all the tests and waiting I too managed to lose weight and lower my a1c.

Everyone responds differently to the meds - guess its a case of tracking and watching what it is doing to your bloods...

All the best X

Hi. I’ve just finished my round of IVF and it didn’t interfere with my levels at all really. My HAB1c was 48 before starting and I actually think it’s gone up because I felt ill from cold etc for a good month etc but with IVF it was fine

Huge good luck for your upcoming cycle. I have been through 5 (4 fresh, 1 frozen) and none of the drugs have had any impact on my diabetes to be honest. Only the steroids I was on for the last few cycles have messed my sugars up initially. You're in a good position with a CGM to keep a close eye on things.
I hope all is going well once you get started - keep us posted! xx

Have you ever had your progesterone to estrogen ratio tested? This is the primary marker of good fertility. It's relatively cheap to get done privately if you can't get it done on NHS.
