Unfortunately I’m planned for a long term maintenance dose of 15-20mg daily. However at present I’m on 60mg per day as I’m in a flare right now. The 60mg will gradually reduce to 15-20mg by December providing my symptoms subside.
When first diagnosed a week ago in hospital I was around 17-26 permanently that was premedication and as I’d gone off my moderate/low carb diet for weight loss at the suggestion of ‘carbs with each meal’ by the diabetes specialist nurse
Theres a whole heap of anecdotal evidence of auto immune conditions being greatly helped by ketogenic and carnivore style eating.
Some of these may resonate

Worth reading up about..
I don't think you could ask for anyone better than Dr. Fung for helping you to fully understand Diabetes and Obesity and once you understand it is so much easier to tackle things. His analogies help you to 'visualise' what is going on.
My favourite analogy is the the Japanese Underground Train analogy but I won't spoil it for youFab! Looks like this could be the perfect fit for me. I can’t wait to get the diabetes code and get reading.
Thanks for the link - I’ll check it out
I’m just reading the first few pages and it’s easy to follow. He likes a good analogy doesn’t he?! I’m just at the one about glucose in the body being like packing a suitcase
I’m another one who doesn’t read extensively but I did read the Diabetes Code soon after diagnosis. Now I rely on second hand info here on the forum, passed on by wider read members!
I went low carb to control my blood sugars but had the happy side effect of weight loss too. I’ll tag in @xfieldok who has recently had to start steroids and has had some success with using a Freestyle Libre to establish where the steroids kick in with regard to blood sugar spikes.
Watch a few videos and then read the book in his voice! Just add a few "rights" into the mix.Fab! Looks like this could be the perfect fit for me. I can’t wait to get the diabetes code and get reading.

My favourite analogy is the the Japanese Underground Train analogy but I won't spoil it for you. Second favourite is the Sugar Bowl analogy. Fung's latest podcast with Brett Scher that I viewed just a few days ago is wonderful and is probably on bulkbikers link, well worth a listen as it gives great hope in improving all manner of 'sister' conditions.
Enjoy.
Hope you feel better really soon.I am signed off work at the mo due the health problems listed above so I’ll use my time wisely and have a listen

Hi @IBEX82 I second what everyone else says about Jason Fung.
I was diagnosed November 2017 with an Hba1c of 122. Following the advice from this forum and a keto diet, I busted that number to 35 in 4 months. Job done!
Fate decided to stick it to me and gave me an autoimmune dose of Myasthenia Gravis. I am on a hefty dose of steroids for the next 18 months. I was left hanging by the medics for around 5 weeks with screamingly high BG levels. Eventually I saw a specialist nurse who put me on glicazide and humulin intermediate insulin. I also self fund a freestyle libre (Asda cheapest). The first thing I discovered was that thefreestyle showed that I was in hypo territory during the early hours of the morning. More stamping of feet until I was able to drop the gliczide and add in a rapid acting insulin as a top up during the day. I am still getting to grips with things but my highs are now around 10 rather than 21.
So, I am still pretty much keto. I am taking the insulin to try and counteract the scumbag steroids. I take the intermediate insulin just after the steroids as they both kick in at around the same time. The insulin seems to last around 3 hours. I watch the freestyle libre like a hawk and take the rapid insulin when the numbers start to rise. I keep checking the freestyle, sometimes I need two or three doses. Anything seems to affect things. The hot weather has definitely not been helping me.
So a word about weightloss. On keto, once you have got over the carb addiction weightloss is a byproduct and it just melts away. Unfortunately, you have chucked steroids into the mix. Traditionally, steroids will case an increase in weight. My neurologist told me that even doing a keto diet, I would increase my weight because they change your metabolism. So, I have put a bit of weight on and I may continue to do so, but it is going on slowly at the moment.
I am hoping that after I have been weaned of the steroids I will be able to ditch the insulin and the weight, fingers crossed.
I go back to the specialist diabetic nurse on 22nd July. If I have managed to keep my figures reasonable by then, I will ask her how I bolus for cake.
If you have a spare hour the great man himself is chatting hereOh I’m sorry to hear you had to resort to steroids after being so successful in getting your Hba1c down. I can understand how frustrating the BG readings are too - especially when you feel you’re eating so well.
I am only on gliclazide at present though the diabetes specialist nurse has already mentioned insulin to get a tighter control on my BG so that may be where I end up next. Although this is the same nurse encouraging carbs and telling me while I’m on steroids below 12 BG readings are acceptable
And yes! Weight gain ahoy... two weeks on bed resting, hospital food and twice daily steroid infusions meant I gained 10lbs
