During my weekly call off the Diabetic Nurse and my false hypo, she also mentioned about 4 jelly babies. Why is it jelly babies and not lets say wine gums-fruit pastilles etc? I have seen on here people mentioning Jelly Babies

jelly babiies you dont need to chew as much and will break down quicker than winegums allowing sugars to be used slightly more effectively. the small 150mm (or 100mm if can get them) coke works a treat too :)

(edit added below)
lift or dextrose works fast as well :) alongside several other stuff. chocolate doesnt get digested as quick i got into trouble for using a couple of ferro rocher before OOPS miss those ;f

here 2 links you may find useful: if miss a particular item from your regular menu, for any those listed (or simular types) foods could use those instead if want to.

I use winegums or even salty licorice.
Dextrose tablets are even quicker than jelly babies, but I hate them and I'm quite stubborn when hypo, not wanting to eat anything I do not like. So I'm much better off having something slightly slower which I'll actually eat!

When the grapes right outside my front door are in season I love to use those to treat a hypo, makes me feel like I've cheated diabetes.

Same with me, if I dont like it I'll be even more stubborn than normal when hypo - and I'm stubborn as heck to begin with, so I have to have something I at least vaguely like

I find Jelly Babies helpful cos the ones I get are 5 carbs each (so I know what I've having) and I can put them in my shorts/trouser pockets and they are virtually indestructible - they don't crumble, they don't mind getting speared by keys, coins or anything else , they don't freeze, they don't melt (well unless you leave one in your pocket and put them in the washing machine!)

No reason for Jelly Babies except they are well known and easy to chew. They also iirc contain pretty much exactly 5g of CHO per baby, which makes it easy to count your required carbs. I don't think they are as effective/fast as Skittles, which are my preferred hypo treatment (~1g CHO/Skittle, sealed mini packs are available which survive well in bags/pockets/etc., they taste better than Jelly Babies)

"would you care for a jelly baby" said the fourth doctor played by the fantastic Tom Baker....

I love jelly babies and used them for years and years and been a doctor who fan all my life so its win win for me ....

Happy times and places

Tony
