Jobs with diabetes

I'm looking for a new career and was thinking about a job in diabetes, there's nothing else that I know more about so why not use my knowledge and experiences to help others.

I'm after suggestions for which types of jobs are out there. Obviously I know about consultants and DSNs but are there any others?

You could work for a diabetes charity like DUK, as you say there's always nursing to to consider although it's very hard work and demanding, once your trained and qualified you could always aim to become a DSN

I'm thinking about becoming a DSN will have to do a lot of reading up on it I think, I haven't got a clue how to fill out UCAS forms or anything!
I don't think I'm going to get on to my vet nursing course this year because I can't find a placement and because of my age if I apply next year it's going to cost £2500 which I can't afford! That's why I'm looking for something else

Nice idea Indiana ! Remember, a job is only a job if it's something you have to do but are not interested in. If you are passionate about what you do, it becomes a paid hobby
 


Have you tried Student Support, there is help out there to help you fill out the forms.
 
That sounds liek a great idea if you can manage to get in there, just think how valuable a DSN with direct knowledge would be.

I'd love to do the same, but in my case become a personal trainer/exercise therapist specilising in training and advising diabetics on everything from diet to psychology to injury prevention in addition to the normal training advice
 
I've got a few ideas buzzing around at the moment!
My initial plan was to become a vet nurse and help diabetic animals!!

Have you considered approaching your GP, offering support to their diabetes activities? It might have to be volunteering, but it could give you an insight into the sharp end of NHS diabetic care, and demonstrate to training establishments that you are serious.

Of course, that might lead to some lively discussions around practical, real life condition management, but better at the outset than 3 years into a training programme that might drive you potty. The NHS has some way to go, in my opinion.

It's good to walk the walk.
