Jubilee Thames Pageant

Completely agree about George Harrison much underrated and produced by far the best output after the split apart from maybe Lennon's Imagine album. Did you see the documentary program done by Oliver Stone (I think) on George? it was on the TV quite recently.

Anyway to get the thread back on topic there was no chance of John Lydon another of my later hero's being asked to perform his classic 1977 Silver Jubilee hit.

Bit of trivia that many people dont know for you all, George Harrison wrote and sang While My Guitar Gently Weeps but it was Eric Clapton who played lead guitar on it Harrison played acoustic guitar

I can't deny Paul struggled a little as did Elton, by far the best voice of the night for apart from Boe & Flemming was the great Tom Jones......what a man what a singer!

I'm glad I missed Cherryl 'Curl'. From what I heard about it from several people, it was vomit inducing. Who picked the line up? A cretin?

She wasn't the best act of the night

Grace Jones? What the hell were they thinking? She has been certifiably bonkers for years. Who can ever forget when she went nuts and attacked Russell Harty?

A 'little different' perhaps but to sing for 3 minutes whilst hooler hooping at the grand old age of 64 is quite an achievement dont you think? Especially when you consider that she can still hold a tune. She is as over the top as Elton but unlike Elton she still looks good

+1

Although like Elton, she's as mad a bag of frogs.

Elton's pink jacket was pretty cool though! Conservative dressing is as boring as hell!

I love Elton John, Sacrifice and Nikkita are two of my faves, but loads of his are certainly in my top 100. Quo and Queen are high up there too.

COOL!!!! Elton,The quo and Queen are AWESOME!! Freddie's voice was Hauntingly wonderful and the mould was broke when they made him!!

I also loved Elton's instrumental 'Song for Guy',Lovely piece of music!

Freddy at live aid was THE business, I still get shivers watching it (you tube). I have loads of the albums and now CD's. I loved Freddie, and fancied Brian May like crazy. Fancied Rick Parfitt as well - what a floozy I was

I have an Elton John instrumental as my ringtone. Out of The Blue it is called, and for those old enough to remember, the BBC used it for the end credits of the original Top Gear, when it was still a car programme, featuring Chris 'Beardieman in woolly pullies' Goffey & William 'Farah Slacksman' Woollard

Queen is my favourite too - what a loss to the world when Freddie died  He was unique. The Beatles also come high on my list. But not McCartney as he sings now.

Macca just shouts out of key now. Freddie was a legend, no ifs, no buts. He really knew how to work a crowd, and their live performances, well, what can you say apart from magnificent? I have several Queen Live videos & DVD's, and they are all epic and full of win.

OH YES!! I was gutted to have been too young to go and see Queen Live at Wembley back in '86 but my Dad went with his mates and rubbed it in how great it was! I then was determined to see them live myself BUT just as I started earning money of my own,the great freddie tragically died out of the Blue, absolutely gutted!!

To be honest, I had a feeling Freddie was dying long before he actually passed away. The way he looked in a fair few of the videos such as Invisible man & Miracle. He was a shadow of his former self. They always say though the brightest stars shine half as long. It was certainly true for Freddie

Come to think of it,when he was in 'the show must go on' Video, his face was VERY Gaunt looking, and looking back now,it all made sense sadly.

I was watching the concert with a Cliffie fan so couldn't say that his voice has totally gone! Should I be charitable and say it was probably the cold night air that made Cliff, Elton, Paul McC sound so bad? After hearing Cheryl sing live I know now why she has to mime - I'm tone deaf but I can tell when someone's flat, but should I be charitable and say it was probably her tight bodice and she couldn't breathe properly? I loved Grace Jones, who else could wear that outfit, sing and keep a hula hoop going the whole time. Thought Stevie Wonder still had it. The projections on the front of the palace when Madness were on were very cleverly done. Any one like to give me odds on it being Sir Gary Barlow next Jan.

You could Chris but it would fall on deaf ears

Seriously though I've seen Elton in recent years and he is still one of the best performers on the go.

There were rumours, but that's all they were. The official announcement was made the day before he died. His later video's did show he was very seriously ill. I still miss his voice, and showmanship. I often watch him on youtube. Brilliant man, tragically missed.
