Just a couple of questions

Started my new eating regime recently and trying to forget everything I thought knew about healthy eating.
Getting easier by the day especially with everyone kindly sharing on this site.

(I am T1)

However just a couple of questions (for now)

From my Collins Gem Carb Counter should I be counting carbs or net carbs?

How do you count say 1 pint of semi skimmed milk over a day. If it is 30g over the course of the day, would you split it over 3 injections?

The collins Gem has Cream Crackers listed as 0.7g of carbs each - is this right, seem very low in comparison to other crackers.

Where can I find the recipe for Fergus's bread and similar loaves (couldn't find on Eddies site)

Thanks everyone, Hayley

The Cream Crackers are definitely better than a lot of other Crackers and Crispbreads. They taste nice too !

Hi Ken,
Another question from me, I must admit to being confused over cream crackers, is there such a thing that contains 0.7 carbs. The best I've seen is 5.3g per cracker

Hi graham.

I can only go by what it says in both the carb counter and calorie books. I don't actually have a packet to hand.
I think this was mentioned somewhere before and the figures were I believe correct.
Speaking from experience I know I am able to handle two or three with some cheese with no ill effects. One of my little snacks. Otherr sorts of Crispbreads are a no for me.
If you find anything different please let me know.

Ken.

Thanks Ken, I'll have a trawl about see what I can find.

Cheers Graham

Thanks Ken I got the same result, I might give them a try got plenty of strips so will see what effect they have.

Thanks Guys, the crackers did stick out like a sore thumb in the carb counting book!

Any T1s out there who can advise re the milk question on my original post and also still a little confused re net carbs (even after reading page 17), so for covering insulin levels which one do I use?

Will definately be trying out the bread mixes now I know wbhere to find them.

Thanks again,Hayley

Hi Hayley

My diabetic nurse told me I have to count TOTAL carbs (I'm Type 1). The American's count net carbs and I totally get your confusion.

I went to get some Atkins bars yesterday for 'treats' but although some of them state only 5g of net carbs etc, some of them have 20g total carbs which would mean I would have to inject the same to cover that as I would for a low carb MEAL!!! Scary stuff..... :?

hya hayley,
im type 1, as for carbs i always use the highest number on the label, as for milk throughout the day, i drink lots of cups of tea with milk and basically i was taught that if its under 10g carbs, ignore it, i certainly wouldnt inject for the milk i have in drinks it would be near on impossible,if theres anything else i can help u with plz ask

I'm more confused than ever now, thought we had a friend in Dr Atkins and have stocked up on the chocolate bars and cereal bars thinking woo hoo! only 2g carbs or whatever.

And now we have to count the polyol things too?

Thought it was too good to be true (eating chocolate that is!)
